In a plasma display panel having a magnesium oxide film formed on a dielectric layer covering electrodes for gas discharge, the magnesium oxide film has an oxygen deficiency amount within a range of 3.0×1017 to 1.0×1020 per cubic centimeter, preferably within a range of 3.0×1017 to 1.0×1018 per cubic centimeter. The magnesium oxide film has a crystal orientation of (220) plane orientation.

The driving method includes the steps of generating an address discharge between the first and the third electrode to select a predetermined cell and sustain discharges between the first and the second electrode to produce light for display, and controlling the plasma display panel such that the discharge intensity of a sustain discharge in which the second electrode serves as the anode is smaller than the discharge intensity of a sustain discharge in which the first electrode serves as the anode.

    摘要: Increase of an address voltage change amount of a PDP is suppressed. X and Y electrodes which are a display electrode pair arranged on a plate; a dielectric layer covering the X and Y electrodes; and a protective layer covering the dielectric layer are provided. The protective layer includes an MgO film deposited on a surface of the dielectric layer and a plurality of MgO crystalline particles attached on the MgO film. Also, by using (110) orientation as a crystal orientation of the MgO film, a crystal density of the MgO film can be increased, so that an increase of the address voltage change amount can be suppressed.
