    Abstract: A fuel cell membrane electrode assembly and a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, which improve drainage in a high current range where a large amount of water is produced, without hindering water retention under low humidification conditions, and exhibit high power generation performance and durability even under high humidification conditions. A fuel cell membrane electrode assembly according to a first embodiment of the present invention includes a polyelectrolyte film, and two electrocatalyst layers sandwiching the polyelectrolyte film. At least one of the two electrocatalyst layers includes catalyst support particles with a hydrophobic coating, a polyelectrolyte, and a fibrous material having an average fiber diameter that is 10 nm or more and 300 nm or less. The fibrous material has a mass that is 0.2 times or more and 1.0 times or less the mass of the carrier in the catalyst support particles.

    Abstract: An electrode catalyst layer includes a catalyst material, a conductive carrier that supports the catalyst material, a polymer electrolyte containing a sulfonate group, and a fibrous material. The electrode catalyst layer includes a first surface configured to be in contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane, and a second surface facing away from the first surface. A first value is obtained by dividing a peak intensity of SO3 (m/z80) by a peak intensity of carbon (m/z12), and also dividing by a total thickness of the electrode catalyst layer, when the electrode catalyst layer is analyzed using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) at each of a plurality of positions in a thickness direction of the electrode catalyst layer from the first surface to the second surface. A rate of change of the first value with respect to a thickness of the electrode catalyst layer is −0.0020 or less.

    Abstract: An analysis apparatus including a stage, an analysis device placed on the stage and including receiving sections which accommodate a sample and a reagent for biochemical reaction, and are communicated with one another through a flow path having an inlet and an outlet, a liquid introduction section which is connected to the inlet and supplies into the flow path the sample, the reagent, and an sealing liquid for sealing each of the receiving sections, and a waste liquid storage section which is connected to the outlet and stores as waste liquid an excess of the sample and the reagent and a part of the sealing liquid supplied to the flow path, an optical system which includes an objective lens, emits excitation light to the receiving sections and allows observation of fluorescence generated in the receiving sections by the excitation light, and a control unit that controls such that the sealing liquid and the excess of the sample and the reagent form an interface in the waste liquid storage section, and that the interface is formed at a distance not less than a fluorescence-obtainable distance from a bottom of the receiving sections.
