    摘要: This invention concerns a device for the manufacture of polygonal tubes, with a base frame (2) and an upright assembly wall (10) that is equipped with a rotating mandrel (7) having a polygonal cross-section and a drive system (6); a corrugated strip of foil (60) fed by feed rolls (29) is wound onto this mandrel; on both edges, the strip of foil (60) has a pre-formed fold; during the winding process, adjacent edges with such pre-formed folds can be inserted in each other and closed to form a fold; in the assembly wall (10), shafts (16) that are concentric to the axis of rotation of the mandrel (7) carry arms (20) with rolling tools (30) directed at the mandrel (7). In the device proposed by the invention, at least one shaping roll (42) is provided that is located outside the mandrel (7) in axial direction of the tube to be manufactured.

    摘要: The invention provides improvements to a composite member that has a plurality of plies. The improved composite member has (1) an interior ply which functions to dampen or resist sudden forces exerted on the composite member, (2) an intermediate load-carrying ply, and (3) an exterior abrasion-resistant ply. These plies have multiple, often intertwined fiber components disposed or imbedded with a matrix material, preferably Nylon-6 thermoplastic, to inhibit sharp edges during breakage. One or more of the plies typically has "bi-axial" or "tri-axially" braided fiber geometries wherein one or more fibers are helically wound about the circumference of the member. The helically oriented fibers are oriented at a selectively variable angle which influences the overall bending strength of the composite material. In one aspect, the angles of the fiber components and other factors are used to maintain substantially uniform cross-sectional area over the length of the tubular member while simultaneously varying the bending stiffness. A composite member constructed according to the invention resists sudden or impact forces and has high, selectively variable bending strength, high impact resistance, and safe failure modes.

    摘要: A method of making a filament wound flat stock member and the filament wound flat stock member made by that method. A low fraction bearing surface is formed on a support having a flat surface by placing a self-lubricating material on the flat surface. A matrix is formed upon the self-lubricating material by winding thereon a resin-impregnated filamentous material. The winding is continued until a desired outer matrix dimension is obtained and the resin is cured to bond the materials together into a hardened stock member. The hardened stock member is removed from the flat of the support to provide a filament wound flat stock member having an exposed bearing surface of the self-lubricating material.

    摘要: Elongate articles of non-circular cross section such as those of an airfoil cross section are constructed by winding filamentary material in layers about a form between a pair of spaced turnarounds generally conforming in shape to the cross sectional shape of the form. Adjacent layers are continuously wound by winding the filamentary material across the edges and outer face of each turnaround while reversing the direction of relative longitudinal displacement between the filamentary material and the form. The shape correspondence between the turnarounds and the form effect a minimization of expanse between the turnaround edge and form surface, thereby minimizing bridging of the filamentary material between those two members.

    摘要: A mobile platform personnel berth unit and a method for creating the mobile platform personnel berth unit are provided. A male mandrel is created defining an inner mold line surface of the berth unit. The male mandrel is overlayed with one or more layers of filament strips. The filament layers are thermally cured to create an integrated structural member. The male mandrel is then removed from the structural member. The structural member is profile shaped to create a semi-finished berth unit having a top, a bottom and a pair of integral side panels. Additional entrance and back panels as well as access panels and connecting hardware are then added to complete the berth unit.
