Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a pneumatic tire comprising at least one component, the at least one component comprising a rubber composition, the rubber composition comprising a diene based elastomer and from 1 to 100 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of elastomer of a polymer nanofiber having a thickness ranging from 20 to 200 nm.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a tire having a rubber tread configuration comprised of a circumferential non-cellular outer rubber cap rubber layer which contains a tread running surface, a circumferential internal, intermediate closed cellular rubber transition rubber layer positioned between said outer tread cap non-cellular rubber layer and a circumferential tread base non-cellular rubber layer. Said internal cellular rubber layer is thereby exclusive of said tread running surface and thereby abridges and joins said outer non-cellular rubber cap layer and said non-cellular base rubber layer of said tread configuration.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a rubber composition which can sufficiently improve performance on ice and snow and wet gripping properties, and a pneumatic tire using the same. The rubber composition comprises, based on 100 parts by weight of diene rubber (A), 2 to 20 parts by weight of short fiber (B) having an average fiber diameter of 10 to 100 μm and average fiber length of 0.01 to 4 mm, 1 to 10 parts by weight of particles (C) having a Moh's hardness of at least 5 and average particle size of at most 500 μm, and 1 to 15 parts by weight of starch/plasticizer composite material (D), and the pneumatic tire has a tread made of the rubber composition.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed towards speckled tire treads for tires. Specifically, the speckled tire tread includes a primary tread compound that serves as a matrix in which is distributed discrete particles of one or more secondary tread compounds, at least one of the compounds is a different color than the other tread compound(s) so as to be visually distinguishable. For example, the primary tread compound may include carbon black pigment and be black in color while the secondary tread compound can include one or more pigments to provide the particles with non-black color. Thus, the colored particles have a visually distinguishable color from that of the primary tread composition. Additionally, at least a portion of the particles may be situated for viewing on a running surface of the tire tread so that a subject can visually distinguish between the compounds, and such observed compounds may provide a different tire performance characteristic(s).
Abstract:
A curved surfaces for adhering to contact surfaces is provided. The structure includes a curved surface with a plurality of nano-fibers disposed thereon. When the curved surface is in a first position, at least one of the plurality of nano-fibers contacts the contact surface and provides an adhesive force at the contact surface. When the curved surface rotates to a second position from the first position, the at least one of the plurality of nano-fibers is leveraged way from the contact surface.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pneumatic tire having a component including at least one diene based rubber and discontinuous textile cord having at least two textile yarns, wherein the cord is partially untwisted.
Abstract:
A cord-embedded rubber tape, a tire component made by winding such a tape, and a pneumatic tire comprising such a tire component are disclosed, wherein the tape is made of unvulcanized rubber and at least one cord is embedded therein along the length of the tape. The unvulcanized rubber may include short fibers oriented in the longitudinal direction of the tape.
Abstract:
A high performance tire includes a carcass provided with at least one carcass ply, a belt including two or more layers of reinforcing cords parallel to each other in a layer and crossed with respect to those of an adjacent layer, applied circumferentially on the carcass, a radially-external layer of circumferentially-oriented reinforcing cords applied on the belt, and a tread band comprising an underlayer and an external layer. The underlayer may have a hardness which is substantially constant over a temperature range between 23null C. and 100null C. The underlayer may also have an elastic modulus which is substantially constant over a temperature range between 70null C. and 100null C. Additionally, the underlayer may be made from an elastomer compound comprising reinforcing fibers and hardening resins. Further, the underlayer may have a hardness and an elastic modulus which remain substantially constant between 70null C. and 100null C. A method for making the tire is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire in which a foamed rubber layer having closed cells is provided at a surface of a tire tread which substantially contacts at least a road surface, wherein the foamed rubber layer has closed cells whose average diameter is about 1 .mu.m to about 120 .mu.m and has an expansion ratio of about 1% to about 100%, a solid-phase rubber portion of the foamed rubber layer has a rubber composition in which at least both of a diene-type rubber and silica are mixed, and an amount of the silica is about 10 to about 80 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the diene-type rubber. The pneumatic tire exhibits excellent traction and braking abilities and controllability on snowy, icy and wet road surfaces.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an improved structure for rubber bodies such as pads on track units or tires on road wheels for tracked vehicle such as tanks. The rubber bodies have an array of bores with metallic inserts recessed in the bores. The inserts stiffen the pad or tire to reduce deformation under load and the heat produced thereby, and also transfer the heat to the surrounding air. In one embodiment, the inserts are cups closely fitting in the bores and having fins or other protrusions extending from the cup into the rubber body. In other embodiments, the inserts comprise heads near an exposed surface of the rubber body and shanks extending from the heads to a metal substrate underlying the rubber body and forming part of the track unit or road wheel.
