In such embodiments, the arm may be reciprocated by crankshaft, hydraulic, or other means.     摘要: A pneumatic actuator having AND gate logic characteristics is disclosed. The actuator has three chambers each divided into two chamber portions by respective flexible diaphragms. One of the diaphragms acts as a valve closing member and controls the flow of a pressurized fluid through the actuator to actuate an associated device when fluid flow is permitted. The other two diaphragms are in mechanical contact with one another and in hydraulic communication with the one diaphragm and thereby control its motion, keeping it normally closed and preventing fluid flow but allowing it to move into an open position permitting fluid flow and actuation of the associated device only when each of the two diaphragms are subject to separate, concurrent drops in pressure which allows both of them to deflect away from the one diaphragm.

In certain embodiments, a low-pressure actuator is utilized in series with a liquid flow valve equipped with a solenoid and an electrical detector/sensor for detecting an event such as the occurrence of smoke, heat, or a high rate of temperature rise. In alternative embodiments, the low-pressure actuator itself is equipped with the solenoid and detector/sensor.

    摘要: A pressure relief valve has a gasketed main body fastened to a vessel wall adjacent to a vent port, the body having a recess surrounding the port which receives a plastic insert removably coupled to the body by a retaining ring fastened to the main body. The insert defines a passage communicating with the port and a valve seat engageable by a seal assembly for closing the valve. The seal assembly includes an annular retainer for a seal O-ring and a plug receivable through the retainer and into a socket in a valve stem, which is spring-biased against the retainer and is guided in a guide assembly removably mounted on the main body. The insert is formed of plastic and the retainer and plug may also be formed of plastic and can be readily field-removable by simply unbolting the housing from the vessel and unfastening the retaining ring. The guide and bias assemblies need not be disassembled.

    摘要: An improved plastic valve body design and construction which has strength and durability similar to that of steel valve bodies but with significantly reduced manufacturing time and cost. The valve body comprises a unique and nonobvious combination of a previously unused plastic material and a complex rib design that results in performance similar to that of steel valves. The valve body is preferably comprised of Delrin or a nylon/Kevlar composite material. A plurality of ribbed members connect outer and inner faces of the valve body to provide increased strength and durability. The plastic valve body has the ability to deform to mate with the valve seat and thus extrusion gaps are eliminated. This allows use of more desirable softer polyurethane inserts.

    摘要: A pressure relief valve, for pressurized fluid storage vessels such as a rail tank car for volatile liquids, has a flap valve for rotational movement in a valve passage between a closed position seated on a valve seat and blocking the passage and an open position in which the passage is substantially unobstructed. A spring arrangement for keeping the valve closed against a rated pressure includes an externally mounted spring system which, when exposed to fire conditions which might threaten the wall strength of the vessel, loses spring temper so as to reduce the closing pressure of the valve. The flap valve is supported through an arm by a ball joint allowing a limited pivotal movement, and the valve seat is located in the valve passage by an O-ring allowing a limited degree of float in its own plane.

These two sealing sections have frustoconical outer surfaces that cooperate with the frustoconical surface of the reinforcement section to form a continuous, co-extensive frustoconical outer surface.
