An improved tire provides an air-flow restrictor that may be installed inside a tire. The air-flow restrictor may restrict or prevent the flow of air in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the tire. Also, a method for saving fuel by inserting or retrofitting tires with air movement restricting inserts.
Abstract:
A system for dissipating sound shock waves within a vehicle tire includes a wheel upon which a tire is mounted to create an internal air chamber defined by the wheel and the tire. A flow-resistant barrier is coupled to the wheel or the tire and defines an air cavity within the internal air chamber. The barrier comprises a material that provides an acoustical resistance to sound shock waves passing therethrough. The air cavity defined by the barrier has a volume such that air within the cavity offers relatively small impedance to the passage of shock waves through the barrier and into the air cavity. The barrier also can produce frictional heat when displaced by a shock wave, thereby converting energy of the shock wave to heat to reduce noise associated therewith.

A device for serving as a wheel for motor vehicles, where the wheel has its tire tread replaceable when it is worn out via unique rims and molded tire features. An alternate internal structure prevents the tire from “going flat” or “blowing out” when it is punctured or cut. In one variation the tire can be used with existing rims and can be retro-fitted into existing tire by mating the tires with this invention's “Non-Flat Tire” internal element and special rim. A variation of the “Non-Flat Tire” system uses spring-like materials for its tire core that is shaped similar to a tire's inner tube, and functions like an “air-filled” tire, but the absence of the use of air in this unique configuration gives it the “Flat Tire Prevention” effect.

An inner tube for a vehicle tire, including a base, the base having two outer walls, two inner walls, an annular air chamber connected between the inner walls, and a plurality of rubber coated breakers retained between the inner walls and the outer walls and arranged in a zigzag manner around the axial central axis of the base, and a multi-cell tube mounted around the annular master air chamber between the inner walls of the base, the multi-cell tube having arched cells of different sizes arranged around its center, a plurality of foamed rubber blocks and a plurality of glued breakers alternatively plugged into the arched cells, and a layer of patching agent covered over the arched cells to seal the foamed rubber blocks and the glued breakers in the arched cells.

A self-supporting motor-vehicle tire has an outer ring supporting the tread, an inner ring adapted to be fitted to a rim or to be placed upon a hub, and supporting elements uniting the said rings. The supporting elements are in the form of honeycomb-like cells running substantially parallel to the axis of the tire, the average wall thickness of the cells being less than approximately one-thirtieth of the width of the tire, while the average cross-sectional area of the interior of a cell, expressed in cm.sup.2, is less than about one-tenth of the corresponding tire width measured in centimeters.
