Abstract:
An electrostatic spray gun comprises a barrel; a hand grip at a support end of the barrel; an electrode at a material discharge end of the barrel; an electrical resistance member in the barrel having forward and rearward ends, the forward end being electrically connected to the electrode; a recess for receiving a high voltage cable, an end of which is inserted into the recess to be connected at a contact zone in the barrel. An electrical conductor extends between the contact zone and the resistance member for electrically connecting the resistance member to an inserted cable. The point of connection between the conductor and the resistance means is located rearwardly of the contact zone such that a portion of the resistance member can be located rearwardly of the contact zone to shorten the required length of the barrel.

Abstract:
An improved process for coating the surface of a transparent refractory material such as glass with a semi-reflective film of tin oxide by depositing finely divided particles of a pyrolytically decomposable organotin compound on the surface of a substrate which has been heated to a temperature of between about 400.degree. and 650.degree. C. The finely divided organotin compound has a particle size not greater than about 20 microns. Before deposition, the organotin compound is mixed with a predetermined amount of finely divided particles of a compound containing a halogen constituent. Deposition is accomplished by suspending the mixture of both compounds in an anhydrous carrier gas which is projected onto the surface of the substrate. In an alternative process, a single compound containing both tin and halogen constituents is projected onto the surface of the pre-heated substrate by means of the anhydrous carrier gas.
Abstract:
Plasma torch or plasmotron for processing metals in the air or under water. The plasma stream issuing from the torch is shielded by a conical spray of water issuing from the torch. The water spray is given a rotary or whirling motion, thereby increasing its effectiveness in shielding the plasma stream, and insuring outer water shielding of the plasma stream with its changing shape and movement in accordance with changes in the medium wherein the processing is carried out.
Abstract:
Apparatus for a wire spray coating method including a capacitor connected with an electric power source to be charged thereby. A gap switch having discharge electrodes which are spaced apart from each other so that a discharge is produced under a voltage applied by the capacitor. Wire receiving terminals which are spaced apart to receive a length of wire of coating material therebetween, the terminals being connected with the capacitor so that the charge of the capacitor is applied to the terminals through the switch. The discharge electrodes being maintained at a fixed distance so that a discharge across the electrodes is readily produced when the electrodes are supplied with the voltage from the capacitor. A voltage dividing element for applying a fraction of the voltage across the capacitor to the discharge electrodes and the remainder of the voltage to the wire receiving terminals when the wire is not in position between the terminals, but for applying substantially a total voltage of the capacitor when the wire is in a position between the terminals.
Abstract:
A glass plate coated with a metal oxide film comprising aluminum oxide and at least one of commonly used metal oxides such as the respective oxides of Cr, Co, Ni, Fe, Zn, Sn, Cu, Mn and Ti, wherein aluminum oxide is used to suppress the lowering of the reflectivity by a heat treatment of the oxide-coated glass. The oxide film is formed by coating the glass with a solution of thermally decomposable compounds exemplified by acetyl acetonates of the respective metals in an organic solvent and heating the coated solution.
Abstract:
The apparatus comprises an explosion chamber 1 in the form of a tube closed at one end and communicating through a discharge pipe with a powdered coating batcher while a safety pipe communicates it with a mixing chamber 9 which prepares the explosive mixture ignited in the explosion chamber 1 by a spark plug 21. Installed between the safety pipe and the explosion chamber 1 is a circular precombustion chamber 10 which surrounds said explosion chamber and communicates with its space through holes 11 in its walls 12. The end of the discharge pipe 5 mounts a jet nozzle 13 which is installed in the face of the closed end of the explosion chamber coaxially with the latter so that its outlet section 16 is arranged ahead of the holes 11 in the walls of the explosion chamber 11 relative to the open end 17 of the latter. Due to such an arrangement, the process of discharge of the explosive mixture from the precombustion chamber 10 through the holes 11 in the walls 12 of the explosion chamber 1 into the space around the nozzle 13 is accompanied by drawing in the powdered coating from the nozzle 13 and its intensive mixing with the explosive mixture which produces a homogeneous two-phase mixture and a more uniform coating and ensures a more economical operation of the apparatus due to a more rational utilization of the coating materials.
