摘要: The embossed surface of a metal workpiece is repaired by utilizing an electrode having relatively closely spaced discharge areas adjacent its center and relatively widely spaced discharge areas at its outer portion. A suitable stencil is placed on the surface to be repaired and a pad saturated with electrolytic fluid is placed on the stencil. The electrode and workpiece are connected to opposite poles of a D.C. power source and the free end of the electrode is pressed into the pad. During the repair embossing operation the electrode is occasionally lifted from the pad and then lowered into the pad in a slightly different position. The apparatus can also be used to emboss the plain surface of a metal workpiece.

摘要: A machine for the electrochemical marking treatment of metallic surfaces, includes an electrode placed in sliding movement on the metallic surface to be treated, a buffer impregnated with etching solution for the specific metal in treatment, and an electric current circuit, suitable for electro-marking treatment of said metal, with a conductor connected to the electrode and the other conductor connected to the metallic surface in treatment; and presents to treat large metallic surfaces on plates, metal canvas or on metallic sheet in coil. The plate, canvas or the metallic sheet is placed in a electro-marking mechanism in a reciprocally movable way with respect to the electrode, in such a way to allow the electrode the electrochemical marking action on the surface to be treated even if the electrode is of limited size with respect to said surface, the electrode being movable in the and/or with the electro-marking mechanism, the buffer being impregnated with the etching solution at regular intervals, and the relative motion of the electrode on the surface being the combination of two longitudinal and transverse relative motions.

摘要: In through-mask electroetching of a metal film on top of an insulating substrate, the shape of the metal film being etched is a function of the mask opening, the spacing between the openings and the thickness of the mask. An analysis of the electric field around the mask and the metal film is used to determine conditions leading to the formation of islands of unetched metal films within the openings. The analysis is then used to design the mask pattern and eliminate these islands. The increase in the ratio of the mask thickness to the opening width for eliminating the islands also lowers the undercutting of the mask. Premature stoppage of the electroetching process arising from the isolation of the sample film from the contact is also addressed. The electrical contact to the sample is made at one end and a nozzle jet of electrolyte is slowly swept from the far end of the sample towards the electrical contact. The nozzle speed is matched with the metal removal rate and the electrical contact is exposed to the electrolyte at the end of the process.

摘要: There is provided an apparatus and a process for using same for etching a metallic object, suitably a plate to prepare a metallic printing plate. The object is partially covered by a resist surface wherein the exposed portions of said metal, will be exposed to the action of an electrolytic etchant force. The apparatus comprises a bath for an aqueous electrolyte, an electrode, suitably but not critically metallic, immersible in said electrolyte, which will serve as the cathode, a source of direct current voltage, which may be adjustable for controlling the applied voltage. The voltage should be adjustable to operate accurately within a rather narrow voltage range, such that the minimum voltage shall be at least that of the ionization potential of the metal of the metal object in the electrolyte chosen and the maximum shall not substantially exceed the sum of the decomposition voltage of the aqueous electrolyte and the over-voltage of the cathode selected.
