摘要:
The embossed surface of a metal workpiece is repaired by utilizing an electrode having relatively closely spaced discharge areas adjacent its center and relatively widely spaced discharge areas at its outer portion. A suitable stencil is placed on the surface to be repaired and a pad saturated with electrolytic fluid is placed on the stencil. The electrode and workpiece are connected to opposite poles of a D.C. power source and the free end of the electrode is pressed into the pad. During the repair embossing operation the electrode is occasionally lifted from the pad and then lowered into the pad in a slightly different position. The apparatus can also be used to emboss the plain surface of a metal workpiece.

A PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR THE SELECTIVE REMOVAL OF METAL FROM A CORROSION RESISTANT METAL PIECE BY ELECTROCHEMICAL MILLING BY COVERING THE PIECE WITH AN ALUMINUM OR TITANIUM ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE MASK WHICH IS PROVIDED WITH A PROTECTIVE SURFACE THROUGH ANODIZATION DURING THE PROCESS, THE NON-MASKED, ETCHED SURFACES OF THE METAL PIECE BEING ELECTROCHEMICALLY DISSOLVED TO A PREDETERMINED DEPTH.

THIN FILM TANTALUM RESISTORS ARE TREATED BY SELECTIVE ANODIZATION, BY BRINGING AN ELECTROLYTE INTO CONTACT WITH THE RESISTOR TO BE TREATED AND APPLYING A VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE ELECTROLYTE AND THE RESISTOR. THE ELECTROLYTE IS DISPOSED ON A RAISED PORTION OF A BASE PLATE IN THE FORM OF A THIN LIQUID LAYER WHICH IS PREVENTED FROM EXTENDING LATERALLY BEYOND THE RAISED PORTION BY SURFACE TENSION FORCES.

Method and device for marking a workpiece surface (2A) of a metal workpiece (2), in which a welding torch (3) comprising a welding wire electrode (4) is guided along the workpiece surface (2A) to be marked and meanwhile a wire end (4A) of the welding wire electrode (4) is moved towards and away from the work-piece surface (2A) to be marked, wherein an electric voltage (U) present at the welding wire electrode (4) and/or an electric current (I) flowing through the welding wire electrode (4) bring about electric sparks, which bring about material removal and/or material alteration at the workpiece surface (2A) of the metal workpiece (2) to mark the workpiece surface (2A).

A machine for the electrochemical marking treatment of metallic surfaces, includes an electrode placed in sliding movement on the metallic surface to be treated, a buffer impregnated with etching solution for the specific metal in treatment, and an electric current circuit, suitable for electro-marking treatment of said metal, with a conductor connected to the electrode and the other conductor connected to the metallic surface in treatment; and presents to treat large metallic surfaces on plates, metal canvas or on metallic sheet in coil. The plate, canvas or the metallic sheet is placed in a electro-marking mechanism in a reciprocally movable way with respect to the electrode, in such a way to allow the electrode the electrochemical marking action on the surface to be treated even if the electrode is of limited size with respect to said surface, the electrode being movable in the and/or with the electro-marking mechanism, the buffer being impregnated with the etching solution at regular intervals, and the relative motion of the electrode on the surface being the combination of two longitudinal and transverse relative motions.

In through-mask electroetching of a metal film on top of an insulating substrate, the shape of the metal film being etched is a function of the mask opening, the spacing between the openings and the thickness of the mask. An analysis of the electric field around the mask and the metal film is used to determine conditions leading to the formation of islands of unetched metal films within the openings. The analysis is then used to design the mask pattern and eliminate these islands. The increase in the ratio of the mask thickness to the opening width for eliminating the islands also lowers the undercutting of the mask. Premature stoppage of the electroetching process arising from the isolation of the sample film from the contact is also addressed. The electrical contact to the sample is made at one end and a nozzle jet of electrolyte is slowly swept from the far end of the sample towards the electrical contact. The nozzle speed is matched with the metal removal rate and the electrical contact is exposed to the electrolyte at the end of the process.

Electrode-driver circuits for use with non-contact spark-discharge imaging systems. The circuits rapidly produce short-duration, high-voltage pulses that cause the discharge of a spark to the surface of a printing plate; they feature short rise times, rapid operation and clean decays, thereby facilitating high-speed spark-discharge imaging.

There is provided an apparatus and a process for using same for etching a metallic object, suitably a plate to prepare a metallic printing plate. The object is partially covered by a resist surface wherein the exposed portions of said metal, will be exposed to the action of an electrolytic etchant force. The apparatus comprises a bath for an aqueous electrolyte, an electrode, suitably but not critically metallic, immersible in said electrolyte, which will serve as the cathode, a source of direct current voltage, which may be adjustable for controlling the applied voltage. The voltage should be adjustable to operate accurately within a rather narrow voltage range, such that the minimum voltage shall be at least that of the ionization potential of the metal of the metal object in the electrolyte chosen and the maximum shall not substantially exceed the sum of the decomposition voltage of the aqueous electrolyte and the over-voltage of the cathode selected.

A method of fabricating multiple parts, especially multiple metal parts which are later joined to form an assembly such as a three piece jet engine mounting link assembly with triple load bearing redundancy, from a single workpiece by cutting the workpiece along two mutually perpendicular axes, preferably with an electrical discharge machining (EDM) wire, and electropolishing recast surfaces formed on the parts by the EDM cutting operation.
