    Abstract: A brake device for damping a translatory motion having a bearing housing and a brake disk both made of a resilient, hard elastic plastic material. The brake disk is supported for rotation in the bearing housing and adapted for rotation in response to a translatory motion, the brake disk having an outer conically shaped friction surface and the bearing housing a correspondingly configured inner conically shaped friction. The surfaces are held together when the disk is supported in the housing to generate frictional resistance between them as the disk rotates in the housing in response to a translatory motion and thereby dampen the motion.

    Abstract: In a slow-acting rotary shaft device, a shaft, which rotatably supports a second member, includes a hollow shaft body latched to a first member inrotatably, a cap member outwardly inserted on an end portion of the shaft body rotatably and latched to the second member inrotatably, a torsion bar which has one end latched with the shaft body and another end latched with a cap member, and a viscous grease enclosed between the shaft body and cap members. The hollow shaft body is divided into two portions, a body portion of which latches to one of the end portions of the torsion bar. In opposite surfaces of the two portions, a projection formed at one surface and a concave portion formed at another surface are loosely inserted and provided with a relatively rotatable race area. When this device is used, the rotative member is rotated at a slow speed by a jumping up torque of the torsion bar in a rotation area up to a neutral point, while in a rotation area past the neutral point, the rotative member can be stopped at any position.

    Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided an input responsive damper comprising a worm wheel for being rotationally driven by an object of damping, a worm for being rotated by the worm wheel, a guide for movably guiding along the axis of the worm a worm support member rotationally supporting the worm, a biasing device for biasing the worm support member in the direction opposite to the direction of the biasing force of the worm wheel applied to the worm and a damping device having a combination of a magnet and a conductor arranged concentrically around the rotary axis of the worm, the magnet and the conductor rotating relative to each other, either of the magnet and the conductor being supported by the worm and the other being supported by a stationary member. Such an input responsive damper has the capability of increasing its damping effect as it axially moves when it is subjected to excessively large rotary force without contacting the object of damping. Therefore, an input responsive damper can generate damping force automatically and reliably as a function of the applied rotary force without generating noise.

    Abstract: A mechanism for opening and closing an openable apparatus has a body consisting of a first body portion and a second body portion.
