Abstract:
A method and apparatus for measuring properties of a liquid composition includes a mechanical resonator, such as a cantilever, connected to a measurement circuit. The mechanical resonator's response over the frequency range depends on various characteristics of the liquid being tested, such as the temperature, viscosity, and other physical properties. The invention is particularly suitable for combinatorial chemistry applications, which require rapid analysis of chemical properties for screening.

Abstract:
A system and method for encoding dynamic image information for an image generated by a computer application executing on a processor. Various aspects of the present invention may comprise determining a first set of information describing a reference image. A second set of information may be determined for describing an image, wherein the second set of information comprises information indicative of movement between the image and the reference image. For example, a set of primary movement directions may be determined based at least in part on the computer application generating the image. Such set of primary movement directions may be utilized for analyzing the image relative to the reference images. The difference between the image and the reference image may, for example, be analyzed using at least one of the set of primary movement directions. A movement direction may, for example, be utilized to describe the image.
Abstract:
A system for processing information received from a plurality of source devices. Various aspects of the present invention provide a first video generating device that produces a first video output that comprises compressed video information representative of a sequence of video frames, the compressed video information comprising inter-frame comparison information. A second video generating device is also provided, which produces a second video output. A processing module is communicatively coupled to the first and second video generating devices and independent of such devices. The processing module may decompress the first video output from the first video generating device. A video presentation device is provided, which may generate a display corresponding to the first video output via the processing module and a display corresponding to the second video output via the processing module. Generally analogous components for processing audio information are also provided.
Abstract:
A sensor-array based materials characterization apparatus includes a sensor array disposed on a substrate; electronic test circuitry for sending and receiving electrical signals; electronic circuitry for routing signals between selected sensors and the electronic test circuitry; and a computer or processor. Preferably, all or part of the electronic test and signal routing circuitry is contained on the same substrate as the sensor array. Additional circuitry and a processor or computer may be physically separate from the substrate carrying the sensor array, and may be connected to the sensor array substrate. During use, multiple samples are applied to the multiple sensors in the array, and signals are sent to and received from selected sensors. Integration of the electronic test and signal routing circuitry onto the same substrate as the sensor array allows for a high density of sensors on a single substrate, permitting rapid analysis of combinatorial libraries.
Abstract:
An object code expansion profiler equips a program for execution profiling by preprocessing the object code files of the program so as to add profiling monitoring code to the beginning of all or substantially all functions. The preprocessing includes, for each function, the steps of grouping the function's instructions into basic blocks, counting the number of cycles required to execute the instructions of the basic block, and inserting special monitoring code with the basic block. The special monitoring code is executed each time the basic block is executed, and updates the profiling information to reflect the number of cycles required to execute the basic block. Special handling is provided for profiling calls to the Operating System (OS). The resultant profiling information is converted into a call graph image most useful for human users. For each arc in the graph connecting a calling-function/parent-node to a called-function/child node, the displayed arc image has a width logarithmically proportional to the self+descendants time for the called function.
Abstract:
Thin, horizontal-plane Hall sensors for read-head in magnetic recordings and methods for fabricating the sensor provide a novel sensor exhibiting high sensitivity and high spatial resolution.
Abstract:
A new mounting sheet for mounting items such as small note sheets, business cards, and receipts thereon for permitting easy scanning of the items by a scanning device, such as a computer scanning devices and photocopying devices. The inventive device includes a sheet having an upper surface, and a pair of spaced apart lateral edges and a pair of spaced apart longitudinal edges extending between the lateral edges. Provided on the upper surface of the sheet are a plurality of elongate adhesion strips arranged in a grid arrangement on the upper surface of the sheet such that the grid arrangement has a plurality of laterally extending adhesion strips and a plurality of longitudinally extending adhesion strips. The lengths of the laterally extending adhesion strips are extended between the longitudinal edges of the sheet while the lengths of the longitudinally extending adhesion strips are extended between the lateral edges of the sheet. The grid arrangement of the adhesion strips defines a plurality of non-adhesive regions on the upper surface of the sheet which are arranged in a plurality of laterally extending rows and longitudinally extending columns.
