Abstract: Techniques and systems are described for providing modularity, tracking and simulation features of a mixed reality simulator. A modular approach to tracking systems, tracked instruments, and interchangeable modular physical models is described. Enhanced indicators and indicator interfaces improve imaging probe and instrument orientation and alignment with respect to a physical target, including but not necessarily within a combined physical and virtual system; these include anisotropy indicators, indicators of alignment in both in-plane and out-of-plane ultrasound or other imaging techniques, and perpendicularity indicators for better placement of probes and instruments over curved surfaces. A universal needle hub is described that integrates tracking system components and simulation feedback components usably with varying needle types.

Abstract: Various examples are provided for securing deep brain stimulation (DBS) leads. In one example, among others, a DBS cap for securing a DBS lead includes a base ring adapted to be mounted within a counterbore opening formed in the skull, a lead securing element that mounts to the base ring, and. a top cover that mounts to the base ring. In another example, a method for securing a DBS lead includes forming a counterbore opening in the skull, securing a DBS cap within the counterbore opening, passing a DBS lead through the DBS cap and the counterbore opening and positioning a tip of the lead in brain tissue, and securing the DBS lead to the DBS cap using an adhesive. The skull opening includes a lower bore, a concentric upper bore, and a step positioned at the interface of the upper and lower bores.

Abstract: A method for preparing a conjugated polymer involves a DHAP polymerization of a 3,4-dioxythiophene, 3,4-dioxyfuran, or 3,4-dioxypyrrole and, optionally, at least one second conjugated monomer in the presence of a Pd or Ni comprising catalyst, an aprotic solvent, a carboxylic acid at a temperature in excess of 120° C. At least one of the monomers is substituted with hydrogen reactive functionalities and at least one of the monomers is substituted with a Cl, Br, and/or I. The polymerization can be carried out at temperature of 140° C. or more, and the DHAP polymerization can be carried out without a phosphine ligand or a phase transfer agent. The resulting polymer can display dispersity less than 2 and have a degree of polymerization in excess of 10.

Abstract: Medical device designs for enteral nutrition that inhibit the relative motion of one device member to another device member are herein disclosed. The gastric and/or intestinal feeding tube shaft is disposed of teeth, furrows, ridges, indentions, tabs, or corrugations that operate with an external retaining member. The assemblies prevent the relative motion of the internal retention member relative to the external retaining member and assist in maintaining the internal retention member against the gastric wall.
