    摘要: An optical waveguide includes a linear metallic thin film having a light delivering unit coupled to one end thereof, through which light is incident; and at least more than two dielectric layers surrounding the metallic thin film. In the optical waveguide, an effective refractive index and a propagation loss in the metallic thin film is reduced so that long-range light transmission is realized. Further, a loss of light caused by the coupling to optical fiber, which is coupled to one end of the metallic thin film, is simultaneously reduced.

    摘要: A firmware upgrade system searches for and upgrades to a new version of firmware without a user's attendance. The firmware upgrade system includes a user terminal to generate a search command signal while unattended by the user to initiate a search for a new version of electric appliance firmware, and a server to determine whether the new version of electric appliance firmware is present in response to the search command signal. The new version of electric appliance firmware, if present on the server, is transmitted to the user terminal and replaces the firmware in firmware storage if the new version of firmware is more recent than the firmware in firmware storage.

    摘要: A color display apparatus having a virtual single light origin is disclosed. The color display apparatus includes an illumination lens system, a combining system, a Fourier filter and a projection system. The illumination lens system converts a plurality of light beams, which are radiated from a plurality of light sources, into linear, parallel light beams. The combining system produces a plurality of diffracted light beams having a plurality of diffraction orders by modulating each of the parallel light beams incident from the illumination lens, and outputs the plurality of diffracted light beams so that the diffracted light beams have a same virtual light origin and are adjacently located. The Fourier filter passes only some of the diffracted light beams, which have desired diffraction orders, therethrough. The projection system focuses the diffracted light beams, which are passed through the Fourier filter, on an object, and then allows the focused diffracted light beams to scan the object.

    摘要: An optical pickup includes a light source emitting a laser beam and an optical path changing unit altering a traveling path of an incident beam. An objective lens, disposed on an optical path between the optical path changing unit and an optical disk, focuses the incident beam from the light source to form a light spot on the optical disk of the objective lens. The optical pickup further includes a photodetector and an detecting-correcting unit, arranged on the optical path between the optical path changing unit and the objective lens, performing at least one of detecting the thickness of the optical disk and correcting aberration caused by thickness variations of the optical disk. The objective lens includes a first transmitting portion divergently transmitting an incident beam, where the first transmitting portion is at a relatively near-axis region from an optical axis of the objective lens. A second transmitting portion transmits the incident beam, where the second transmitting portion is arranged facing the first transmitting portion. A first reflecting portion condenses and reflects the incident beam from the first transmitting portion, where the first reflecting portion is formed around the second transmitting portion. A second reflecting portion condenses and reflects the incident beam from the first reflecting portion towards the second transmitting portion, where the second reflecting portion is formed around the first transmitting portion.
