Abstract:
A high throughput microarraying or colony picking robot with an automatic mechanism for exchanging pin heads and an automated washing and drying apparatus. The robot allows a dirty pin head to be deposited on the automated washing and drying apparatus for cleaning without use of the xyz-positioner, while spotting or picking can continue by picking up a clean pin head without having to wait for the dirty pin head to be cleaned. In this way, the speed of operation can be increased without any increase in the acceleration or speed of the x-, y- and z-drives. The dead time normally associated with the washing and drying cycle, which is usually several minutes, is therefore eliminated, and replaced with the much shorter dead time, of only a few tens of seconds, needed for changing between heads.
Abstract:
Polymer particles having select functional or absorbing groups are provided. The polymer particles are useful for preparing organic-inorganic composite particles that are suitable for providing dried coatings with improved hiding. Aqueous compositions containing these composite particles are also provided. The select absorbing groups include phosphorus acid groups, phosphorus acid full-ester groups, polyacid sidechain groups, and salts thereof. The select functional groups are capable of forming covalently bonded composite particles. The composite particles formed from the multistage polymer particles having the select functional or absorbing groups are useful for preparing dried coatings with a combination of improved hiding, increased gloss, and good film properties.

Abstract:
A removable computer mouse and pad support platform attachable to either one of a chair's armrests. The platform has a main support portion for the mouse/pad and an extension arm extending therefrom parallel to the armrests. To attached the platform to one of the armrests, the platform extension arm is oriented parallel to the chair's armrest and one wide strap or two spaced straps are used to encircle and fix it around the armrest. The strap or straps may have hook and loop (VELCRO™) ends or the like which acts as end fasteners. When not made as in the preferred unitary structure embodiment, the two piece main support platform and its lower extension arm may be attached together with screws, bonding material or other fasteners.
Abstract:
A hydrodynamic fluid film bearing in which a plurality of circumferentially spaced bearing elements are provided, defining areas of support for the rotating part of the bearing. At least some of the bearing elements are adjustable during operation to vary lubrication conditions in the fluid film. The bearing elements are of sufficiently high stiffness that the position of the entire bearing surface of each element is essentially independent of the pressure in the fluid film encountered during operation. The bearing allows complete control of the lubrication conditions and can be adjusted for optimum performance over a wide range of speed and load.
Abstract:
This invention relates to processes for catalytically oxidizing organic compounds (for example, methane, ethane, propylene and carbon monoxide), catalytically reducing oxides of nitrogen with a reducing fuel as well as for the production of methane by the steam reforming of naphtha and naphtha distillates. The catalyst used in such processes consists essentially of an inert, rigid, porous refractory honeycomb structure coated with a mixture or alloy of platinum, rhodium and a base metal in which rhodium constitutes from 1 - 50 weight % and the base metal constitutes from 0.01 to 25 weight % of the total metal content.
Abstract:
A single bipolar transistor crystal oscillator with the bias on the base of the transistor fixed and a second transistor coupled in parallel with the transistor of the oscillator for providing an alternate current path when the second transistor is conducting to reduce the current gain of the oscillator transistor, and a diode connected to the base of the second transistor for rectifying the AC output signals of the oscillator and biasing the second transistor into conduction when the output of the oscillator exceeds a predetermined value.
