Abstract:
Disclosed is a conversion composition containing a trivalent chromium cation in an amount of 0.001 g/L to 20 g/L. Also disclosed is a system for treating a metal substrate that includes the conversion composition and a sealing composition comprising a lithium cation. Also disclosed is a method for treating a metal substrate that includes contacting at least a portion of a surface of the substrate with the conversion composition and then contacting at least a portion of the surface of the substrate with the sealing composition. Also disclosed is a substrate obtainable by treatment with the system and/or obtainable by the method of treating.
Abstract:
Actinic radiation-curable compositions containing polythiols and urethane/urea-containing polyalkenyl prepolymers that can be used for aerospace coatings and sealants. The coatings can be applied to surfaces and rapidly cured.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods for making a cured sealant. The methods include depositing an uncured sealant composition on a substrate and exposing the uncured sealant composition to actinic radiation to provide a cured sealant. The uncured sealant composition includes a thiol-terminated polythioether, a polyene comprising a polyvinyl ether and/or a polyallyl compound, and a hydroxy-functional vinyl ether. Related sealant compositions are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising sulfur-containing prepolymers such as polythioether prepolymers, polyepoxides, and a blocked 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene bicarbonate catalyst useful as aerospace sealants are disclosed. The compositions exhibit extended working time and the curing rate can be tailored for specific applications.
Abstract:
Thiol-terminated polythioether compositions and sealants prepared using the thiol-terminated polythioether compositions that exhibit extended working time and that rapidly cures at room temperature at the end of the working time are disclosed.
Abstract:
Sealant systems that are pre-applied to a part to be sealed include a layer of an uncured moisture-curable sealant and a frangible barrier coating applied over the uncured moisture-curable sealant. During assembly, the barrier coating breaks to expose the moisture-curable sealant to moisture to initiate the curing reaction. The moisture-curable sealant systems are suitable for aerospace applications and include sulfur-containing prepolymers. Various curing chemistries can be used.
Abstract:
UV curable sealants, method s for making the sealants, and method for using the sealants are disclosed. The UV curable sealants may be used in seal caps useful to seal fasteners in aerospace fuel tanks. The UV curable sealants may also be used to smooth defects in surfaces such as aerospace surfaces.
Abstract:
Cure-on-demand, moisture-curable, urethane-containing prepolymers having urethanes incorporated into a sulfur-containing prepolymer backbone and compositions thereof for use in sealant applications are disclosed. The cure-on-demand moisture-curable urethane-containing prepolymers are terminated with polyalkoxysilyl groups. The compositions contain a controlled-release moisture cure catalyst. Compositions containing the prepolymers provide cured sealants exhibiting improved tensile strength.
Abstract:
Partially reacted alkoxysilane compositions, the use of partially reacted alkoxysilane compositions as adhesion-promoting primer coatings, and methods of using the partially reacted alkoxysilane compositions and coatings are disclosed.
Abstract:
Thiol-terminated polythioether compositions and sealants prepared using the thiol-terminated polythioether compositions that exhibit enhanced retention of elongation following exposure to high temperature are disclosed. The enhanced retention of elongation is realized by incorporating certain phenolic antioxidants into the composition.
