Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for controlling the quantity of intake air supplied to an internal combustion engine, in which the position of a valve member of a flow control valve having a non-linear valve opening characteristic is converted into an intake air quantity or a virtual valve position proportional to the intake air quantity so as to linearize the non-linear valve opening characteristic of the flow control valve. Application of the method of the present invention to an idle speed control device in an engine equipped with an electronic controlled fuel injection system is advantageous in that the quantity of intake air supplied to the engine can be accurately controlled under various operating conditions of the engine, therely preventing rotation of the engine at an excessively high speed and stalling of the engine, improving the fuel consumption and reducing noise generated from the engine.
Abstract:
A control apparatus of an internal combustion engine which has an air-fuel ratio adjusting device for adjusting the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture, and an ignition device for igniting the air-fuel mixture. When a knock sensor detects a knocking state of the engine, it delivers a knock signal corresponding to the detected knocking state. In response to the knock signal delivered from the knock sensor, first correction data, which instantaneously prevents the knocking state by changing to a high degree, and second correction data, which corresponds to the properties of fuel used and prevents the knocking state by changing to a low degree, are calculated. The ignition timing is set in accordance with the calculated first and second correction data, whereby the operation of the ignition device is controlled. The air-fuel ratio is set in accordance with at least one of the first and second correction data, whereby the operation of the air-fuel ratio adjusting device is controlled.
Abstract:
A method of detecting a fault of an exhaust gas recirculation system of an internal combustion engine, comprising detecting a temperature relating to a temperature of a gas recirculating through the exhaust gas recirculation system when the system is in a condition in which the system should be operated to return part of an exhaust gas of the engine to an intake passage, and detecting that the exhaust gas recirculation system is defective when the detected temperature is lower than a fault discriminating value. A condition of air to be sucked into the engine, such as intake air temperature and atmospheric pressure, is detected, and the fault discriminating value is set in accordance with the detected air condition, whereby abnormality or fault of the exhaust gas recirculation system can be detected accurately and reliably. Preferably, the fault detection is inhibited until the engine temperature reaches a predetermined value and/or a predetermined time period elapses after the start-up of the engine, whereby erroneous fault detection can be prevented.

Abstract:
A liquid crystal display which includes a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the pair of substrates, and electrodes respectively formed on facing surfaces of the pair of substrates for applying an electric field to each pixel. A first alignment film is formed on the surface of one of the pair of substrates and covers the electrodes formed thereon. The first alignment film aligns the liquid crystal molecules in the liquid crystal layer in a direction generally vertical to a plane of the substrates. A second alignment film is formed on the surface of the other of the pair of substrates and covers the electrodes formed thereon. The second alignment film aligns the liquid crystal molecules in a direction generally parallel to the plane of the substrates and gives a pre-tilt to the liquid crystal molecules. An area corresponding to each pixel on the second alignment film is divided into a plurality of domains each having a single easy direction, and at least two domains in the pixel area have different easy directions. In addition, the easy directions of the two domains are different by 180 degrees, and the liquid crystal display also includes a pair of polarizers disposed outside of the pair of substrates such that polarizing axes of the pair of polarizers intersect at a right angle and such that an angle between each of the easy directions of the two domains and the polarizing axes of each polarizer is approximately 45 degrees.
Abstract:
In a Karman vortex flow meter, a first space section is provided between a detection section and an inflow opening, and a second space section is provided between the detection section and an outflow opening. The first space and the second space have cross-sectional areas larger than a cross-sectional area of the detection passage. Accordingly, a disorder of a fluid coming in the inflow opening of the detection passage and pulsation components coming from the outflow opening are reduced by the first and second spaces.
