Abstract: Phosphate-containing copolymers, medical compositions containing the phosphate-containing copolymers, and methods of suppressing microbial virulence are provided. By suppressing virulence, administration and/or application of the medical compositions can be used to prevent, mitigate, or treat a microbial infection. Abstract: An antiseptic composition comprising a multivalent cationic antiseptic present in an amount of 0.05 to 0.5 percent based upon the ready to use composition; an anionic compound which is water soluble in an amount of at least 0.1 grams in 100 grams water at 23 deg C., wherein the anionic compound is present at a concentration which would result in precipitation of the multivalent cationic antiseptic in the composition without a solubilizing surfactant present; wherein the composition, with the antiseptic, surfactant and anionic compound combined with each other, is free of precipitate.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method of preventing transmission of an enveloped RNA virus. The method includes applying to a mucosal tissue of a first mammalian subject not substantially colonized by the enveloped RNA virus an effective amount of an antiseptic composition or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to a treatment plan. The first mammalian subject not substantially colonized by the enveloped RNA virus interacts with a second mammalian subject colonized by the enveloped RNA virus at a first viral load, the first mammalian subject has a second viral load based on the interaction, the second viral load is no greater than 0.5 log increase over an initial viral load over a duration of the treatment plan. The mucosal tissue is in the nasopharynx, nasal cavity, or anterior nares of the mammalian subject. The antiseptic composition comprises iodine, iodophor, or combinations thereof.

Abstract: Compositions including a quaternary amine antiseptic component having a concentration of at least about 0.04% by weight; a poly carboxylic acid chelator having a concentration of at least about 0.05 M and/or an alphahydroxy acid buffer having a concentration of at least about 0.05 M; a (C8-C12) 1,2 alkane diol; and optionally water are provided. The compositions have a pH greater than or equal to 3.5 and less than 5.5 at 23° C. In certain embodiments, water is present in the composition at a greater weight percent than each of the quaternary amine antiseptic component; the polycarboxylic acid chelator, if present; the alphahydroxy acid buffer, if present; and the (C8-C12) 1,2-alkane diol. In certain embodiments, water is present in the composition at a greater weight percent than any other component.

Abstract: A method of disinfecting a medical device comprises three steps. First, a disinfectant is contacted with a process indicator and the medical device. The disinfectant comprises at least one aldehyde. The process indicator contains a synthetic amine-containing compound disposed on a substrate. The synthetic amine-containing compound comprises at least one of primary amino groups or secondary amino groups, and is reactive with the disinfectant to form at least one adduct. The synthetic amine-containing compound and the medical device are in fluid communication through the disinfectant. A predetermined disinfectant exposure criterion exists for contacting the disinfectant with the medical device. Second, the process indicator is spectrally observed and at least one parameter is obtained therefrom that is predictive of the predetermined disinfectant exposure criterion. The third step is determining that the predetermined disinfectant exposure criterion has been achieved.

The present disclosure also provides for articles formed from the composition, with cationic antimicrobial agent incorporated throughout the polymer matrix, as well as methods of manufacturing the composition.
