Abstract: The inventions is directed to a method for recovering support materials used in an additive manufacturing process. The method comprises exposing a precursor additive manufactured article comprised of a water soluble support polymer and an insoluble material to water. The water soluble support polymer is dissolved in the water. The remaining article is then removed from the water. The dissolved water soluble polymer is precipitated from the water. The precipitated polymer is separated from the water and any remaining water removed to recover the water soluble support polymer. The recovered water soluble support polymer may then be re-used to make further additive manufactured articles.

Abstract: A method of fabricating a three-dimensional object, the method comprising: combining at least one of a meth(acrylate), a (meth)acrylamide, a (meth)acrylonitrile, a styrene, an acrylonitrile, a vinyl acetate, a vinylcarbazole, a vinylpyridine, a vinyl ether, a vinyl chloride monomers, a polyfunctional monomer, and a polyfunctional prepolymer with an organic photoredox catalyst to provide a reaction mixture; depositing the reaction mixture; polymerizing the monomers by irradiating the reaction mixture with a light source; and repeating the depositing step until the three-dimensional object is formed.

Abstract: Porous aluminum-containing ceramic bodies are treated to form acicular mullite crystals onto the surfaces of their pores. The crystals are formed by contacting the body with a fluorine-containing gas or a source of both fluorine and silicon atoms to form fluorotopaz at the surface of the pores, and then decomposing the fluorotopaz to form acicular mullite crystals. This process allows the surface area of the ceramic body to be increased significantly while retaining the geometry (size, shape, general pore structure) of the starting body. The higher surface area makes the body more efficient as a particulate filter and also allows for easier introduction of catalytic materials.

Abstract: A three-dimensionally printed article comprises a build material and a support material, the support material comprising a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose having a DS of at least 1.0 and an MS of at least 0.6, wherein DS is the degree of substitution of methoxyl groups and MS is the molar substitution of hydroxypropoxyl groups. The support material can be removed from the build material by contacting the support material with water.

Abstract: A method of additive manufacturing is comprised of providing a material comprised of a ethyl cellulose polymer having an ethoxy content of 43% to 52% by mass and a plasticizer. The material is heated and dispensed through a nozzle to form an extrudate deposited on a base. The base, nozzle or combination thereof is moved while dispensing the material so that there is horizontal displacement between the base and nozzle in a predetermined pattern to form an initial layer of the material on the base and successive layers of the material are adhered on the initial layer to form an additive manufactured part by repeating the aforementioned steps. The article formed of the ethyl cellulose polymer may be used in many applications such as those related to the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Abstract: An additive elastomeric manufactured part having improved surface finish is made by repeatedly extruding through a nozzle to build up layers of a material comprised of a prepolymer comprised of an isocyanate terminated prepolymer and a filler in an amount such that the material has a shear storage modulus G′ of 100,000 to 300,000 Pa measured at an oscillation rate of 1 Hz and a relaxation time of 20 seconds to 360 seconds. It has been discovered that the particular material having these rheological properties is able to improve the surface finish of the additive manufactured part without slumping and is believed to be due to surface flow of material into valleys between the extrudates as they are being built up.

Abstract: An additive elastomeric manufactured part is comprised of extrudates comprised of a reaction product of a multifunctional Michael donor and multifunctional Michael acceptor and a rheological modifier. The additive elastomeric manufactured part may have a high elongation and resistance to heat. Said part may be made by dispensing a mixture of the multifunctional Michael donor, multifunctional Michael acceptor, rheological modifier and a catalyst through a through a nozzle to form an extrudate deposited on a base. The base, nozzle or combination thereof is moved while dispensing the mixture so that there is horizontal displacement between the base and nozzle in a predetermined pattern to form an initial layer of the material on the base. Subsequent layers are then formed on the initial layer by repeating the dispensing and movement on top of the initial layer and layers that follow.
