Abstract: A hybrid article is disclosed including a sintered coating disposed on and circumscribing the lateral surface of a core having a core material and a greater density than the sintered coating. The sintered coating includes more than about 95% up to about 99.5% of a first metallic particulate material including a first melting point, and from about 0.5% up to about 5% of a second metallic particulate material having a second melting point lower than the first melting point. A method for forming the hybrid article is disclosed including disposing the core in a die, introducing a slurry having the metallic particulate materials into a gap between the lateral surface and the die, and sintering the slurry. A method for welding a workpiece is disclosed including the hybrid article serving as a weld filler.

Abstract: A thermal management article is disclosed including a substrate and a first coating disposed on the substrate. The first coating includes a first coating surface and at least one passageway disposed between the substrate and the first coating surface. The at least one passageway defines at least one fluid pathway. A method for forming a thermal management article is disclosed including attaching at least one passageway to a substrate. The at least one passageway includes a passageway wall having a wall thickness and defines at least one fluid pathway. A first coating is applied to the substrate and the passageway wall, forming a first coating surface. The at least one passageway is disposed between the substrate and the first coating surface.

Abstract: A method of welding using a weld filler additive and a weld filler additive are provided. The method includes the step of welding the component with a filler additive comprising a sufficient amount of each of Co, Cr, Al, Ti, Mo, Fe, B, C, Nb, and Ni, the component including a hard-to-weld base alloy. The method further includes the step of forming an easy-to-weld target alloy on a surface of the component from the welding.

Abstract: A method of protecting a hole in a component during a coating process is disclosed. The method includes: placing a plug in the hole, the plug including a water insoluble core and a water soluble layer surrounding at least a portion of an outer surface of the metal core. A coating is applied over the plug and at least a portion of the component. The component is immersed in water to dissolve the water soluble layer, allowing removal of the water insoluble core. Removal of the coating from over the hole and the water insoluble core from within the hole may follow.

The method of forming a thermally dissipative article includes providing a metal powder mixture and a soluble particulate mixture which forms a porous coating upon sintering and immersion in a solvent to remove the soluble particulate.

Abstract: A Method for modifying a plurality of cooling holes of a turbine component includes disposing a recess-shaped modification in a recess of the component comprising a plurality of cooling hole outlets, wherein the recess-shaped modification is formed to substantially fill the recess and comprising a plurality of modified cooling holes passing there through. The method further includes aligning the plurality of modified cooling holes of the recess-shaped modification with the plurality of cooling hole outlets of the component, inserting at least one alignment pin into at least one of aligned pair of holes and hole outlets, bonding the recess-shaped modification disposed in the recess to the component, and removing the at least one alignment pin after bonding, wherein the plurality of modified cooling holes of the recess-shaped modification is fluidly connected with the plurality of cooling holes of the component.

Abstract: A casting method, cast article and casting system are disclosed. The casting method includes providing a base material in a mold, directing a fluid material into the mold, and solidifying the base material and the fluid material to form a cast article. The base material has a first density and first composition. The fluid material has a second density and a second composition. The first density differs from the second density, the first composition differs from the second composition, or the first density differs from the second density and the first composition differs from the second composition. The cast article includes a first material solidification from the base material, and a second material solidification from the fluid material. The casting system includes a mold for containing a base material and an input configuration, with flow control feature, for directing a fluid material into the mold containing the base material.
