Abstract: A system includes a user equipment (UE) traveling at least at a predetermined velocity. The UE is in RRC_INACTIVE state since time T. The system further includes at least a first base station and a second base station. The first base station receives an RRC_INACTIVE state message from the UE. The RRC_INACTIVE state message includes a location and a velocity of the UE, and a time-lapse, which is an elapsed duration since T. In response to a paging message from a core network, the first base station predicts a location of the UE. In response to the UE being within range of the first base station, the first base station sends the paging message to the UE. In response to the UE being within range of the second base station, the first base station sends a request to the second base station to send the paging message to the UE.

Abstract: A millimeter wave communication system for enhanced downlink beamforming and pairing is described. This includes a beamforming system for pairing with a mobile UE, using a base station with a MIMO antenna and a controller. The controller transmits first downlink beams from the MIMO antenna, including channel state information (CSI) reference signals. The mobile UE identifies a provisional downlink beam having a highest intensity CSI reference signal at the mobile UE. The controller receives a CSI reference signal resource indicator (CRI) feedback from the mobile UE that is responsive to the downlink beams and includes the provisional downlink beam, a present geographic position and trajectory of the mobile UE. A refined downlink beam is determined based upon the provisional downlink beam, the present geographic position, and trajectory of the mobile UE. The MIMO antenna transmits the refined downlink beam to execute a pairing with the mobile UE.

Abstract: A method for beamform management in vehicular communications includes, within a computerized processor, determining a planned route for a vehicle, identifying a plurality of candidate cellular towers with which the vehicle may communicate along the planned route, and determining signal strengths of each of the towers at locations along the route. The method further includes determining a communication plan including identifying locations of each of the towers and segmenting the planned route into portions based upon the determined signal strengths. One of the towers is assigned to communicate with the vehicle for each of the portions based upon the signal strengths. The method further includes utilizing the communication plan to change communication between the vehicle and the towers as the vehicle traverses the route by directing a primary lobe of an antenna beam toward each of the candidate cellular towers in turn according to the communication plan.

Abstract: A system of managing charging schedules in a fleet having electric vehicles includes a command unit. The command unit has a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which instructions are recorded. The command unit is adapted to define a plurality of discharge categories, including a transportation category, a transfer category and a reserve energy category. The respective battery power in the electric vehicles is proportioned by setting a respective percentage allocation for the plurality of discharge categories. The command unit is adapted to signal the electric vehicles to charge when at least one of the plurality of discharge categories falls below the respective percentage allocation. The command unit may be adapted to group the electric vehicles in respective virtual boxes based in part on their respective physical locations.

The assistance vehicles are operable to receive the emergency signal, determine multiple distances to the distress vehicle, triangulate among the assistance vehicles to generate a spatial map of the distress vehicle relative to the assistance vehicles, determine one or more approximately horizontal lines in the spatial map that include the distress vehicle and at least one horizontally aligned assistance vehicle in response to the distress vehicle and the at least one horizontally aligned assistance vehicle being on a same vertical level in the spatial map, coordinate among the assistance vehicles to determine one or more horizontal sequences along the one or more approximately horizontal lines, and flash the of the assistance vehicles in the one or more horizontal sequences to lead toward the distress vehicle.

Abstract: A method of arranging platooning vehicles based on the vehicles' historic wireless performance. The method includes a requesting vehicle requesting permission from a lead vehicle of a platoon to join the platoon. The lead vehicle determines if the Advance Driver Assisted Systems (ADAS) Instance State-of-Health (SOH) Scores are above a predetermined minimal threshold and if so, then whether the Overall Historic ADAS SOH Score contains one or more discrepancies. If the Overall Historic ADAS SOH Score contains no discrepancies, the lead vehicle than analyzes the historic wireless performance data from the requesting vehicle and determines a historic wireless performance (WP) score for the requesting vehicle. The requesting vehicle is then arranged in the platoon based on the relative historic WP score of the requesting vehicle to the WP score of the platooning vehicles.

Abstract: A cellular radio architecture that includes a programmable bandpass sampling radio frequency front-end and an optimized digital baseband. The architecture includes a multiplexer having signal paths that include a bandpass filter that passes a different frequency band than the other bandpass filters and a circulator that provides signal isolation between the transmit signals and the receive signals. The architecture also includes a receiver module having a separate signal channel for each of the signal paths in the multiplexer, where each signal channel in the receiver module includes a receiver delta-sigma modulator that converts analog receive signals to a representative digital signal. The architecture further includes a transmitter module having a transmitter delta-sigma modulator for converting digital data bits to analog transmit signals, where the transmitter module includes a power amplifier and a switch for directing the transmit signals to one of the signal paths in the multiplexer.

Abstract: A method for smart guided selection of networks includes detecting a wireless connectivity issue between. The in-vehicle network device is inside a vehicle, and the network access device may be inside or outside the vehicle. The method further includes receiving network data. The network data includes a list of available networks and network performance characteristics of each of the available networks. The method includes predicting, using machine learning, quality of service (QoS) metrics of the available networks along a trip of a vehicle and selecting a one or more networks from the list of available networks for one or more in-vehicle network devices based constraint solving on the predicted QoS metrics of the list available networks and QoS constraints.
