    摘要: A throttle valve is positioned at the entrance to a swirl type of suction passage near to the corresponding intake valve of a cylinder in an internal combustion engine. The valve is designed so that when it is opened only slightly (e.g. 30.degree.-40.degree.), the flow of intake gas passing therethrough converges to flow eccentrically along one side of the suction passage. This arrangement provides full control of the intake gas in the suction passage before it reaches the combustion chamber, even when the volume of flow is small, thereby producing an effective swirl within the combustion chamber for all operating conditions of the engine.

    摘要: A multi-cylinder engine comprising a carburetor housing forming therein at least two branch mixture passages. Each of the branch mixture passages is connected to a respective intake port. A throttle valve of the carburetor is provided for each cylinder. Each of the throttle valves is arranged in the respective branch mixture passage and attached onto a common throttle shaft. A wedge shaped groove is formed on the upper inner wall of each of the branch mixture passages, and the common throttle shaft is arranged in the wedge shaped groove for causing the mixture to flow only along the bottom wall of the branch mixture passage. A single common connecting passage and branch connecting passages which are connected to the common connecting passage are provided. Each of the branch connecting passages opens into the respective intake port in the vicinity of the rear face of the valve head of the corresponding intake valve.

The auxiliary combustion chamber may include a shell positioned in a cavity in the cylinder head with devices for properly positioning the shell in the cavity and for retaining the shell and preventing it from rotating. A passage is provided for rich air/fuel mixture terminating at the rear surface of the valve, when closed, with refinements of the passage, shape of the inlet port, and main combustion chamber wall facilitating the flow of the rich mixture into the auxiliary combustion chamber by venturi action. The flow of fresh mixture into the auxiliary combustion chamber through suction scavenges the combustion gas remaining from the prior firing sequence.

Each of the intake ports comprises an inlet port portion and a port terminating portion formed around the valve stem of the intake valve. Each of the inlet port portions has an opening which is open to the corresponding port terminating portion. The port terminating portions are interconnected to each other via a common connecting passage. The common connecting passage has opposed end openings, each being open to the corresponding port terminating portion at a position opposite to the opening of the corresponding inlet port portion with respect to the valve stem of the corresponding intake valve.

    摘要: A helically-shaped intake port comprising a helical portion and an inlet passage portion which is tangentially connected to the helical portion and extends so as to be slightly curved. The intake valve is arranged at the outlet open end of the helical portion. The first side wall of the inlet passage portion, which is located near the axis of the intake valve, has on its upper portion an inclined wall portion which is arranged to be directed downwards. The inlet passage portion has an open inlet end formed on the flat side wall of the cylinder head. The inlet passage portion is so arranged that the longitudinal axis thereof obliquely intersects with a straight line passing through the center of the valve head of the intake valve and extending parpendicular to the outer side wall of the cylinder head. The inlet end of the inlet passage portion is arranged at a position remote from the straight line so that the inlet end does not include the straight line.
