摘要: A low cost bypass pressure regulator preferably for a returnless fuel system supplying liquid fuel to a fuel injector of the combustion engine. The pressure regulator preferably has a valve head disposed at least in part in a valve chamber defined by a circumferentially continuous inner surface carried by a valve body and which transitions radially outward with respect to a center axis and in a downstream direction. The valve head preferably tapers radially inward from a downstream peripheral outer edge of the head. In a closed position, the valve head engages a seat carried by the body with the peripheral outer edge downstream of the seat and radially spaced from and fitted closely to the valve chamber continuous inner surface thus defining a close fit region therebetween. As the valve head opens, the flow cross-section enlarges which reduces or eliminates oscillation of the valve head.

摘要: A fuel delivery system which selectively controls two pressure sources to deliver fuel from a tank to the engine for consumption by the engine. The fuel system has a pair of fuel supply passages through which fuel is discharged from the fuel tank to a main fuel supply line for delivery to the engine. One fuel passage communicates with an outlet of an electric fuel pump disposed within the fuel tank. The second fuel passage permits fuel to flow out of the fuel tank into the main fuel supply line independently of the fuel pump within the tank. Preferably, a valve is disposed in the second fuel passage to selectively permit fuel flow through the second fuel passage. The fuel system also has a controller which selectively provides electric power to the fuel pump so that the fuel pump in the fuel tank operates only when it is needed to discharge fuel from the tank.

摘要: A fuel pump module constructed to be disposed exteriorly of a vehicle fuel tank carries, as a single unit, an electric motor fuel pump and a pressure control device which controls the pressure of fuel delivered to an internal combustion engine from the fuel pump. Fuel supplied from the fuel tank to the module is drawn into the fuel pump which increases the pressure of the fuel and then discharges the fuel under pressure from an outlet of the fuel pump which communicates with the pressure control device carried by the module and an outlet of the module which in turn, communicates with the engine. The pressure control device may be either a pressure relief valve, which functions to limit the maximum pressure of the fuel delivered to the engine, or a fuel pressure regulator, such as a bypass pressure regulator, which bypasses to a point upstream of the fuel pump inlet fuel delivered from the fuel pump in excess of the engine's fuel demand. Mounting the pressure control device and fuel pump in a common module reduces the number of fuel lines in the fuel system and avoids the problems associated with return fuel systems which return heated, excess fuel from a hot fuel rail. Desirably, a fuel filter is provided at the fuel pump inlet and a foam shell is also disposed in the fuel pump module to reduce sloshing of the fuel and vibrations in the module and to permit a module to securely carry fuel pumps of different size. Thus, the fuel pump module according to this invention is versatile, compact and readily assembled into a wide variety of fuel systems.

摘要: A two-stroke internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder with a combustion chamber defined between the cylinder head and a reciprocating piston, and a carburetor which delivers a rich fuel and air mixture to a compressor with a reciprocating piston driven by the engine to compress the mixture until the mixture is under sufficient pressure to open a differential pressure injection valve and thereby inject the mixture directly into the engine combustion chamber. The mixture is ignited by a spark plug to drive the engine piston through its power stroke and rotate its associated crankshaft which is connected to a crankshaft of the compressor to reciprocate its piston and thereby compress the fuel and air mixture and inject it into the cylinder in timed relation with the engine piston.

摘要: An air/fuel handling system for a small fuel injected engine with a preferably extruded body having an air tuning chamber, a fuel pump chamber and a fuel rail chamber therein for supplying fuel to one or more fuel injectors. A preferably separate fuel metering and throttle body is mounted on the chamber body. Air is supplied to an intake passage of the throttle assembly to the air chamber which has ram tubes for supplying combustion air to the intake manifold of the engine. Fuel from a remote gasoline tank is supplied through a metering valve assembly to the inlet of an electric fuel pump mounted in the pump chamber which supplies high pressure fuel to the fuel rail and injectors and thus to the engine. Fuel vapor in the metering chamber is separated from liquid fuel and supplied to the air intake chamber when the engine is operating.

摘要: A fuel and air charge forming device, such as a carburetor, may include a main body, a fuel and air mixing passage in the body, a fluid passage communicating with the fuel and air mixing passage and a solenoid valve. The solenoid valve may include a coil and a valve body having a base fixed against movement and a valve head extending from the base. The valve head may be driven by the coil between a first position wherein the valve head at least partially obstructs the fluid passage and a second position wherein the valve head permits greater fluid flow in the fluid passage to control fluid flow through the fluid passage.

摘要: A method of operating an engine is disclosed, which includes determining a peak power condition for the engine, measuring a temperature associated with the engine at said peak power condition, comparing the temperature measured with a previously determined temperature associated with a known peak power condition of the engine, determining an offset value based on the comparison made in step, controlling at least one of an air-fuel mixture delivered to the engine or ignition spark timing based on said offset value. Various engine fuel delivery systems, carburetors, fuel injection and control systems also are disclosed.

摘要: A fluid pump includes an electric motor with a casing and a drive shaft extending from the casing, a pumping element coupled to the drive shaft for rotation with the shaft to take in fluid and discharge it under pressure. The fuel pump casing may be sealed and a housing coupled to the casing may provide the inlet and outlet passages for fluid flow to and from the pumping element. The housing may be received in or communicated with other housing or module assemblies to provide a wide array of fuel pump assemblies. The pumping element may include one or more gear rotors, a turbine pumping element, or other pumping element, as desired.

摘要: A vapor control system includes a vapor receiver having an inlet through which vapor is received, an outlet through which vapor is discharged, and a control valve having a first inlet in communication with the outlet of the fuel receiver, a second inlet in communication with a pressure source and an outlet. The control valve also includes a valve having a closure moveable between a first position, preventing communication between the first inlet and the outlet, and a second position permitting communication between the first inlet and the outlet in response to a pressure signal over a threshold pressure provided from the pressure source through the second inlet. Movement of the closure to its second position permits routing of vapor from the vapor receiver, through the first inlet and out of the outlet of the control valve.

摘要: A throttle body for an internal combustion engine has a housing, a first plate carried by the housing for linear reciprocation between a first position and a second position in response to movement of a throttle member, and a second plate carried by the housing for linear reciprocation between a first position and a second position in response to the movement of the fist plate. The first plate and second plates define at least in part an opening through the throttle body. The opening provides a variable flow area that increases as the first plate and the second plate move from their first positions toward their second positions and decreases as the first and second plates move from their second positions toward their first positions. As the first and second plates move between their first and second positions, the flow area of the opening is continually varied.
