The core metal includes a cylindrical wall, mounted on an inner periphery of the outer member, and a radial upright wall extending radially inwardly from one end thereof. The elastic body includes two side sealing lips, arranged radially of the core metal and having their tips held in contact with the radial upright wall. The distance between those side sealing lips is chosen to be equal to or greater than 0.1 mm.

A crimped portion, engageable with a stepped face of the shoulder, is provided in the inboard end of the hub unit by diameter expansion. The crimped portion is formed by crimping such diameter expanded portion which is thin walled by providing a hub inner diameter setback in the inner periphery of the inboard end of the hub unit. This thin walled portion is positioned on a side inboardly of the straight line defining a ball contact angle in the inboard raceway surface.

It is hardened by high frequency induction quenching so that each of the outer raceway surfaces is formed with a hardened layer having a surface hardness of 58˜64 HRC. The effective depth of hardened layer is set at at least 2 mm. The minimum wall thickness of the outer member at these outer raceway surfaces is set at at least 4 mm.
