An image-forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording medium includes an image carrier for carrying a toner image corresponding to an image to be formed on the recording medium, a cleaning device including a cleaning member for cleaning the image carrier by removing residual toner remaining on an image-carrying face, and a bias-applying unit for applying a first bias for removing residual toner charged to a first polarity by electrostatic force from the image carrier such that the cleaning member captures residual toner, and expelling the residual toner charged to a second polarity, which is an opposite polarity to the first polarity, by electrostatic force from the cleaning member toward the image carrier, between the image carrier and the cleaning member.

A plurality of Raman spectral datasets of an unknown sample acquired under the same measurement conditions is selected in a plurality of Raman spectral data items having different spectral profiles acquired by setting different measurement conditions in a plurality of unknown mixed samples, a spectrum acquired under the same measurement conditions as those of the Raman spectral dataset of the unknown sample is selected in the spectra of the benchmark molecule to be classified, a PCA loading is calculated from the Raman spectral dataset of the unknown sample, the correlation between the calculated PCA loading and the selected spectrum of the benchmark molecule to be classified is calculated, and the PCA loading having a highest correlation with the spectrum of the benchmark molecule to be classified is determined in the PCA loadings calculated from a plurality of Raman spectral datasets of the unknown sample having different measurement conditions.

A magnetic recording medium having high bonding capability between the surface lubricant and the diamond-like carbon (DLC) protective layer in the surface of the magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The lubricant is a fluorine-containing lubricant for magnetic recording media represented by the following formula (1), (2) or (3), wherein the substituents R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 in the terminal part of the lubricant each independently represent an organic group, and at least one of the substituents R1 and R2, at least one of the substituents R3 and R4, and at least one of the substituents R5 and R6 each have an isocyanate group: Also disclosed is a magnetic recording medium using the lubricant.

A recording-material cooling device includes a first cooling member, a second cooling member, an approach-and-separation member, and a positioning member. The first cooling member is disposed at a first face side of a recording material to absorb heat of the recording material. The second cooling member is disposed at a second face side of the recording material to absorb heat of the recording material. The approach-and-separation member brings the first cooling member and the second cooling member close to and away from each other. The positioning member positions the first cooling member and the second cooling member relatively brought close to each other by the approach-and-separation member.
