摘要: A method is disclosed for accurate reproduction of high-quality halftone images comprising microdots by means of lithographic plate materials which comprise a heat-sensitive positive-working coating that requires wet processing. Such microdots have a dot size ≦25 μm and may be obtained by stochastic screening or by amplitude-modulated screening at a ruling of not less than 150 lpi. It has been established that the “physical right exposure energy density” (physical REED) lies in the range from CP to 1.5*CP, wherein the physical REED is defined as the energy density at which the physical area on the plate, occupied by a microdot corresponding to a 50% halftone in the image data, coincides with the 50% target value; and wherein CP is the clearing point of the plate which is defined as the minimum energy density that is required to obtain, after processing, a dissolution of 95% of the coating. An accurate reproduction of microdots can therefore be achieved by exposing the material with light having an energy density in the range from CP to 1.5*CP. Loss of microdots by overexposure is thereby avoided.

摘要: A method of making a lithographic image is disclosed, which comprises the steps of providing a lithographic imaging material comprising a support and a heat- or light-sensitive coating; image-wise exposure of the coating to heat or light, thereby obtaining a latent image in said coating, the latent image consisting of a set of exposed areas in the coating and a set of non-exposed areas in the coating; development of the latent image by supplying a processing liquid to the coating and evacuating, by means of a suction device, the processing liquid together with (i) substances removed from the exposed areas without removing such substances from the non-exposed areas or together with (ii) substances removed from the non-exposed areas without removing such substances from the exposed areas. The method is especially suitable for processing a lithographic printing plate while it is mounted in a plate-setter or a printing press, without the risk of damaging or contaminating electro-optical components of such equipment.

摘要: A method for checking whether an article has been inspected by penetrating radiation is described, wherein the article is provided with a heat stimulable storage phosphor whereby penetrating radiation leaves a human- or machine-readable semi-permanent or permanent mark. The article is irradiated in order that both the article and the stimulable storage phosphor are irradiated. The article is checked by heating the storage phosphor, releasing flourescent light and detecting the flourescent light by human eye.
