Abstract: An outdoor messaging display for a home automation system can include an arrival detection device for detecting a visitor's arrival. The system can also include a display device attached near a door that is capable of displaying text to the visitor. The system can also include a home automation controller that can receive a notification from the arrival detection device indicating that a visitor has arrived or has been detected. The home automation controller can send an alert to a device of the resident indicating that the visitor has arrived or been detected. The home automation controller can receive a message from the resident and output the message to the output display for the visitor to read.

Abstract: A method of process management for facilitating switching of operating modes within an electronic device is presented. In the method, the electronic device initiates a first process associated in a configuration file with a first operating mode of the device. The configuration file includes an indication as to whether the first process is authorized to request a switch to a second operating mode of the device. A request to switch to the second operating mode is received from the first process. The device determines by way of the indication whether the first process is authorized to issue the request. If the first process is authorized to issue the request, the device initiates a second process associated in the configuration file with the second operating mode in response to the request.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a method, system, or computer-readable storage device including instructions for reducing the blue light component of displayed video can include one or more of the following features: receiving, at a set-top box, a video signal having a white color balance, the white color balance including a red component value. The set-top box can determine that the current time is after a threshold night value and before a threshold morning value and, based on that, adjust the white color balance of the video signal to increase the red component value. The set-top box can then transmit the video signal with the adjusted white color balance to a display device.

Abstract: A system for securely providing streaming media content on-demand may include a plurality of receiving devices in which each receiving device may request the same or different streaming media content (e.g., stored at a content storage system of a content delivery network) on-demand using VOD or other available on-demand services and/or applications associated with, in communication with or running on the respective receiving devices. In response, the content storage system of the content delivery network will encrypt the requested content uniquely for each received request (e.g., according to an encryption key that is unique for each or virtually each request) and deliver the encrypted requested content to the appropriate respective receiving device of the receiving devices. The respective receiving devices will then each decrypt the streaming content as it is being received according to the corresponding decryption key communicated from a respective individual secure remote to the respective receiving device.

Abstract: An electronic device may derive information specific to the device, dynamically generate a matrix code that includes the information as well as user support information, and transmit the dynamically generated code to a display. When a user captures the matrix code with a reader device, the reader device may decode (or use a back end server to decode) the specific information specific and the user support information and initiate a user support request. Thus, user support for electronic devices may be facilitated utilizing dynamically generated matrix codes, such as (but not limited to) QR codes. In response to the initiated user support request, user support may then be provided for the user. Problems may be automatically taken care of for the user, tutorials may be provided for the user, one or more notifications may be provided to the user, service calls may be scheduled for the user, and so on.

Abstract: Routing on Wi-Fi or similar home networks is improved though the use of a proxy service located on the home network. If wireless networking issues arise, the proxy can adapt delivery of digital content in an intelligent manner. If client communications are becoming increasingly unreliable, for example, the proxy can respond with additional error correction and/or packet retransmissions, in contrast to conventional TCP techniques for responding to network issues. Other corrections and features may be built into the proxy protocol as desired.
