First and second rigid linking segments (20, 22) are in articulating connection with the distal and proximal portions of the base, and with the displaceable portion such that adjustment of the base from the initial state towards the second state causes an increase in a distance between the contact surfaces of the base and the displaceable portion.

摘要: The present disclosure provides, in certain aspects, unique methods and systems for connecting orthopedic components. In some forms, a male-type projection of a first orthopedic component is securely lodged within a female-type aperture in a second orthopedic component. In one embodiment, the projection, while received through a proximal entryway in the aperture, includes a first longitudinal region with deformed surface elements that provide a first securing zone within the aperture and a second longitudinal region with deformed surface elements that provide a second securing zone within the aperture. The first securing zone is located proximate the distal end of the projection, and the second securing zone is located proximate the proximal entryway of the aperture.

摘要: An insertion instrument for inserting an expandable support device, where the insertion instrument includes an actuator device operable to rotate a component of an expandable support device to a rotated position, such that the rotation to the rotated position of the expandable support device causes a first longitudinally extending member of the expandable support device to be longitudinally fixed. The insertion instrument also includes a hollow body, where the hollow body includes a removable gear device or a removable screw driver device. The removable gear device is configurable to cause a first longitudinally extending member of expandable support device to longitudinally extend in a direction away from the center of the expandable support device. The removable screw driver device is configurable to insert a screw into the expandable support device to lock the rotated position into place.

摘要: The invention relates to an expandable acetabular cup (46) which is designed to eliminate the difficulties associated with positioning in the acetabulum of the patient. The inventive device comprises a hemispherical acetabular cup (46) which is partially slotted at six points to facilitate the expansion of a core with conical fitting. The expandable acetabular cup (46) is designed such that it can be introduced freely, or with slight pressure, into a preformed bone cavity. The conical core (16) is designed to be fixed to a guide/impacteur graduated in degrees to maximize the desired position. The implantation is performed gradually. The inclination and anteversion can be checked at all times during the implantation. The retaining mechanism of the guide/impacteur can be used to remove the conical core (16) to re-position the acetabular cup (46) if necessary. The expandable acetabular cup (46) can receive a conical auto-blocking core (85A, 85C) or, according to the patient' condition, a conical core (16) and a supporting auto-blocking ring (26), preferably pre-assembled to facilitate the chirgien's task. The device is secured in final position thereof using the thongs (86A, 96C) of the conical core (85A, 85C), which are disposed in the ribs (20) of a compressed expandable acetabular cup (46) in the acetabulum of the patient. It is recommended to use a femoral head (36) whose diameter is a function of the exterior diameter of the expandable acetabular cup, to therefore obtain the optimal thickness of the conical core (16) and to conserve the required thickness of the acetabular cup (46).

摘要: The present invention provides integration between an implant system and therapeutic agent delivery system. The implant may include a prosthesis that restores biomechanical function while decreasing long-term disability and pain by replacing damaged or degenerate tissues, or a reconstructive implant such as a bone plate. The therapeutic agent delivery system may include one or more channels either permanently or reversibly attached to the implant. The channels may receive medication from an external pump via a percutaneous catheter. The channels deliver the medication to one or more medicating surfaces of the implant to treating proximate tissues.
