    Abstract: A filter element is disclosed. The filter element includes an angled first end cap and a second end cap, each having angled surfaces. The first and second end caps each include an inner sidewall and an outer sidewall projecting longitudinally from the respective angled surfaces. The outer sidewall is axially spaced apart from the inner sidewall. Further, the inner sidewall defines a centrally disposed through-hole on the respective first and second end caps. The filter element also includes a filter media disposed between the first and second end caps. A first and a second locking mechanism are respectively provided on the first and second end caps. Further, the second locking mechanism of the filter element is configured to abut completely with the first locking mechanism of another filter element.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for filtering a liquid utilize a filter apparatus including a bypass filter, a full flow filter, and a flow balancing element for dividing a total inlet flow of fluid to the filter apparatus into a bypass portion, passing through the bypass filter, and a full flow portion, passing through the full flow filter. The bypass filter has a lower filtering efficiency than the full flow filter element, so that a venturi tube is not required for causing the bypass portion to pass through the bypass filter. The flow balancing element divides the flow into a desired bypass portion and a desired full flow portion, at a predetermined operating temperature. Below the operating temperature, the bypass portion increases and the full flow portion decreases, the bypass portion becoming greater than the full flow portion at a second predetermined temperature below the operating temperature.

    Abstract: A fluid-filtering apparatus includes an upper cartridge and a lower cartridge. The upper cartridge includes a fluid-filtering first tube that surrounds and extends along an axis and that defines a first-tube cavity. An axially-extending fluid-filtering second tube is located within the first-tube cavity and defines a second-tube cavity. The lower cartridge includes an axially-extending third tube that defines a third cavity. An axially-extending fluid-filtering fourth tube, of the lower cartridge, is located within the third cavity and defines a fourth-tube cavity. The upper and lower cartridges are coupled together and contained within a casing.
