Abstract: An autonomous airborne carbon dioxide capturing assembly for carbon dioxide sequestration includes a plurality of airships each including a propulsion and navigation system, a sensor, and a carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and liquefaction module. The sensor measures CO2 concentrations. A computer is operationally engaged to the propulsion and navigation system, the sensor, the CO2 capture and liquefaction module, a positioning transceiver, and a communications transceiver. The computer automates decision-making and selectively actuates the propulsion and navigation system for controlled flight to a target area, to selectively actuate the CO2 capture and liquefaction module to capture and to liquefy CO2 from air at the target area, and to selectively actuate the propulsion and navigation system for controlled flight to a CO2 storage facility for offloading of the CO2.

Abstract: A portable launch rig (PLR) may include a support structure including two side supports defining an interior space for lifting and filling a balloon envelope of a balloon. Wheels on each of the side supports enable the PLR to be moved in various directions in order to prepare the PLR for launching the balloon. The side supports are connected by a lateral support beam having a pair of cranes arranged thereon. Each crane has an arm arranged over the interior space that is connected to a spreader beam. The spreader beam includes a lift assembly configured to lift and inflate the balloon envelope within the interior space. The PLR includes a platform and perch for supporting and moving the balloon envelope. A door assembly of the PLR includes a plurality of hangar doors configured to block wind from a respective direction of each hangar door entering the interior space.

Abstract: An energy collection system uses one or more airborne energy collection vehicles having a lighter-than-air balloon structure. The balloon structure has an outer gas envelope formed of a substantially inelastic material and an inner gas envelope at least partially separate from the outer gas envelope, contained within the outer gas envelope and separated from the outer gas envelope by a flexible diaphragm. The space between the outer and inner gas envelopes is filled with air. An air chamber pressurization mechanism maintains the outer gas envelope gas pressure at a target value. An energy storage facility receives energy from a photovoltaic collector array and converts the received energy to stored energy. Storage of the received energy can be accomplished by conversion of a precursor to a high energy fuel as the stored energy, by use of storage batteries or by storage in an inertial mass.

Abstract: The embodiment described herein is a hybrid balloon-multicopter invention. In a similar manner to a multicopter, it incorporates anticlockwise and clockwise rotating rotors to support maneuverability in three dimensional space. However, unlike a multicopter, maneuverability is augmented by the lift force generated by a balloon filled with a lighter than air gas. Furthermore, to support extended day and night operation, one embodiment of the invention includes photovoltaic cells to convert solar energy to electric energy recharging a battery.

Abstract: A method for collecting acoustic data from an industrial machine is disclosed. The method may include: providing an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) having an acoustic receiver attached thereto; and positioning the unmanned aerial vehicle at a specific location so that the acoustic receiver collects acoustic data from the industrial machine at the specific location. An acoustic receiver is attached to the UAV for collecting acoustic data from the industrial machine. An acoustic filter is attached to the acoustic receiver and the UAV for filtering unwanted sound from the acoustic data. Acoustic data can be used by a flight control system to identify a specific location relative to the industrial machine that is a source a specific acoustic signature emanating from the industrial machine.
