Abstract:
The blanket cylinder of a printing press is used to remove oleophobic debris from an imaged dry printing member. Following imaging—e.g., imagewise exposure of the printing member to radiation that ablates the layer below the oleophobic layer, or de-anchors it from the oleophobic layer without ablation—the printing member is brought into rolling contact with the blanket cylinder, and the press is operated “on impression.” This rolling contact may remove not only the oleophobic top layer but ablation debris of the underlying imaging layer as well.
Abstract:
A printable recording media containing a base substrate and a coating layer having a total solid content ranging from about 3 to about 65 weight percent by total weight of the coating composition and that includes from about 10 to about 90 weight percent of starch nanoparticles having a particle size ranging from about 40 to about 500 nm and from about 10 to about 90 weight percent of a water soluble divalent or multi-valent metal salt. Also described herein are a method for making the printable recording media and a method for producing printed images using the recording media.

Abstract:
There is provided a method for obtaining a lithographic printing plate requiring no wet processing comprising the steps ofimage-wise exposing using a laser beam a heat mode recording material comprising on a support a recording composition comprising a hydrophobic polymer and a substance capable of converting the laser beam radiation into heat while said heat mode recording composition is in contact with the acceptor layer of an acceptor element comprising a flexible support, said acceptor layer comprising a hardened non-proteinic hydrophilic polymer obtained by reacting a non-proteinic hydrophilic polymer containing a hydroxyl group or an amino or amido group having a free hydrogen with a hardener capable of reacting with said groups andseparating said heat mode recording material from said acceptor material, characterized in that said recording composition comprises a thermal transferable dye which is transferred at the exposed areas from the recording material to the surface of the acceptor element.
Abstract:
A lithographic printing process characterized by demulsifying an emulsion ink by the action of a cooling means and, if desired, a shearing force-giving means provided in a region of ink distributing rollers in an inking system.
Abstract:
The invention provides a novel ink for dry planographic printing. The new ink is based on a vehicle containing the reaction product of an oil-modified alkyd resin, a rosin-modified phenolic resin, and a diisocyanate and also a high viscosity silicone oil. The new ink can be used with planographic plates having an oleophobic surface and does not adhere to the non-image areas.
Abstract:
A method of selectively reinking an imaged master having residual ink on its image areas after transfer of an image to a receiving member, comprising interposing a screen between and in contact with said master and an inking member containing a viscous lithographic ink, the web of said screen coated with an ink releasing adhesive material having an adhesive release value when dry of less than about 100 grams per inch, and passing ink through the pores of said screen to only the imaged portions of said master.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for effecting the transfer printing of discrete cut-pieces of goods on a continuously rotating, drum type, transfer printer. The method and apparatus includes a rotary drum printer in which the rotary drum is reciprocally moved toward and away from a feed station in which the discrete goods are fed onto a continuous web of material having a transfer print thereon. The arrangement is such that when the drum is moved away from the feed station, the web and cut pieces thereon are indexed a corresponding amount, and when the rotating drum is moved toward the feed station, the web is held relatively motionless, thereby permitting the feeding of discrete cut-pieces thereon, permitting the drum to continue rotating to effect the transfer printing of the cut pieces previously fed into the web.
