摘要: A CPAP controller that supplies oxygen enriched air to a respiratory circuit that utilizes a venturi-jet arrangement within a chamber, which enriches ambient air. Ambient air is drawn into the chamber by a primary oxygen flow source via an oxygen jet that directs oxygen into the venturi. Besides the conventional ability to adjust oxygen/air ratio via changes in the primary oxygen flow source's flow rate adjustment, the oxygen/air ratio may be altered by way of a secondary oxygen supply and its own flow control adjustment that is independent of the primary oxygen source and its adjustment mechanism. Hence the oxygen/air ratio may be adjusted independently of the primary oxygen source's flow rate. The controller further includes a pressure adjustment mechanism that allows the user to adjust pressure to the demand and/or need of the patient.

摘要: A device (1) comprises a sheath (9) for protecting a balloon catheter (2) from contamination with bodily fluids and other matter during the carrying out of a procedure or investigation at a remote site in a human or animal body. The sheath (9) defines a catheter accommodating portion (14) and a balloon accommodating portion (15) for accommodating a catheter (4) and a balloon (8) of the balloon catheter (2) therein. The sheath (9) is of a flexible material having a closed distal end (11) and a proximal opening (13) at a proximal end (10) thereof to a hollow interior region (12) within which the balloon catheter (2) is accommodated. A guide wire engaging distal portion (19) engages and locates a guide wire (7) within the sheath (9). The balloon accommodating portion (15) permits inflating of the balloon (8) to a predefined volume.

摘要: An apparatus for measuring distensibility of a vessel, lumen or sphincter includes a balloon catheter having a balloon located adjacent a distal end of a catheter for inserting in, for example, the sphincter, the distensibility of which is to be determined. The balloon is inflated to respective first and second pressures to distend the sphincter to respective first and second transverse cross-sectional areas which are measured. The first and second pressures are selected so that the relationship between the pressure and the cross-sectional area of the sphincter is linear. The distensibility of the sphincter is determined as a distensibility index, which is the value of c from the equation of a line y=mx+c containing the values of the first and second pressures and areas, where x represents pressure and y represents area.

摘要: A device (1) for monitoring the transverse cross-section of a gastric sleeve (3) as the gastric sleeve (3) is being formed in a stomach (4) during a sleeve gastrectomy procedure comprises a catheter (15) with a primary balloon (19) located thereon towards a distal end (17). The primary balloon (19) is located in the stomach, and the portion of the stomach which is to form the gastric sleeve (3) is stretched around the primary balloon (19) when the primary balloon (19) has been inflated to a diameter approximating to the diameter to which the sleeve (3) is to be formed. As the stomach (4) is being sutured to form the sleeve (3) the pressure within the primary balloon (19) is monitored to avoid excessive stretching of the stomach around the primary balloon (19). The diameter of the primary balloon (19) is also monitored to avoid necking of the sleeve (3) during suturing of the stomach (4).

摘要: A system for inflating a balloon (8) of a balloon catheter (4) with a liquid inflating medium which removes air during inflation of the balloon (8) comprises a vertically mounted syringe (36) containing the liquid inflating medium for inflating the balloon (8). Air in the system is displaced into a return lumen (30) and a return line (46). Air drawn into the syringe (36) with the liquid inflating medium is trapped between a piston (39) of the syringe and a top surface of the liquid inflating medium in the syringe, and thereby separated from the liquid inflating medium. Re-inflating and deflating of the balloon continues until the level of air in the balloon, the flow and return lumens and the flow and return lines (44,45) has been reduced to a predefined level. Then, an accurate determination of the inflation pressure can be read from first and second pressure sensors (50,51; 52,53) on the return and flow lines, respectively. The balloon catheter may be used to determine the volume and transverse cross-sectional area of a lumen or vessel within which the balloon is inflated.

摘要: Apparatus (1) for controlling pressure in a cuff (2) of an endotracheal tube (3) a pole mountable housing (25) within which an inflating medium supply pump (30) is located for supplying inflating medium to the cuff through a communicating tube (18) integral with the endotracheal tube (3) and a delivery tube (37) from the apparatus (1). A pressure transducer (28) connected to the endotracheal tube (3) by a connecting tube (29) monitors the pressure of the ventilating medium in the endotracheal tube (3) for determining transitions from the inspiratory to the expiratory phases of a breathing cycle. A microcontroller (27) controls the supply pump (30) for supplying the inflating medium to the cuff (2) at a first pressure level during the inspiratory phase of each breathing cycle and at a lower second pressure level during the expiratory phase of each breathing cycle.

摘要: The gas mixing apparatus provides the components of a breathing gas for mixing at approximately ambient atmospheric pressure, and regulates the pressure of a selected gas to approximately ambient atmospheric pressure for mixing with air at ambient atmospheric pressure. The gas mixing apparatus includes a piston disposed within a pump chamber. A flow limiting inlet controls introduction of a first selected gas such as oxygen for mixing with a second selected gas such as air. The pressure of the first selected gas is limited to an acceptable maximum pressure, so that even if a valve for admitting the first selected gas for mixing at ambient pressure fails, breathing gas will not be provided at an excessive pressure. A demand valve is alternatively provided for reducing the pressure of the first selected gas supplied before mixing, but a pressure sensor is also provided downstream of the demand valve for detecting failure of the demand valve, to shut off the supply of the first selected gas to prevent overpressurization.

摘要: The configuration of its housing facilitates the assembly of a hybrid electrical optical connector plug in order to minimize manufacturing costs and thereby render the plug especially well suited for use with a disposable peripheral device. The housing consists of two snap-together housing halves that cradle the electrical and optical terminals in a properly aligned orientation and prevent their longitudinal as well as radial displacement.

摘要: A low-profile, high-density package for intergrated circuit chips is provided. A first multichip memory module includes first and second interconnect members having low-profile memory chips mounted on a first side of each member. Low-profile edge clips are employed to mechanically connect a second side of the second member to a second side of the first member, and to electrically connect the first sides of the members to a first surface of a circuit board. Likewise, a second multichip memory module includes first and second interconnect members having low-profile memory chips mounted to a first side of each member. Low-profile edge clips are employed to mechanically connect the second sides of the members, and to electrically connect the first sides of the members to a second surface of the circuit board. A thermal management technique that distributes thermal loads is thereafter applied to create a high-density package capable of insertion into a standard computer backplane and cabinet.
