Provided herein is a pressure sensitive adhesive for an optical film comprising: 100 parts by weight of a (meth)acrylic-based polymer (A) including an alkyl (meth)acrylate (a1) and a (meth)acrylic-based monomer containing a hydroxyl group (a2), as a copolymerizable component, in content in the range of from 0.01 to 5 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the alkyl (meth)acrylate (a1); 0.02 to 2 parts by weight of a peroxide (B); and 0.001 to 2 parts by weight of an isocyanate-based compound (C), the contents of the peroxide (B) and the isocyanate-based compound (C) being values relative to 100 parts by weight of the (meth)acrylic-based polymer (A).

A pressure-sensitive adhesive layer-attached polarizing film of the invention includes: a polarizing film; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer provided on the polarizing film, wherein the polarizing film includes a polarizer and a transparent protective film provided on only one side of the polarizer, the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is provided on a side of the polarizer where the transparent protective film is absent, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition containing a (meth)acryl-based polymer (A) and an alkali metal salt (B). The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer-attached polarizing film has a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer with an antistatic function and satisfactory durability and whose optical properties are less likely to be degraded.

A pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film of the present invention comprises an optical film; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer laminated on at least one side of the optical film, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is formed from an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive comprising a (meth)acrylic polymer comprising 30 to 99.99% by weight of an alkyl(meth)acrylate monomer unit and 0.01 to 15% by weight of a functional group-containing monomer unit, and the (meth)acrylic polymer in the acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive is crosslinked by electron beam irradiation. The pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film has a high level of reworkability, durability and workability.

A pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for an optical film of the present invention comprises 100 parts by weight of a (meth)acrylic polymer comprising 45 to 99.99% by weight of an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer unit and 0.01 to 2% by weight of a tertiary amino group-containing monomer unit; and 0.01 to 2 parts by weight of a peroxide as a crosslinking agent. The pressure-sensitive adhesive composition can form an pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that has satisfactory reworkability such that optical films can be easily peeled from liquid crystal panels with no adhesive residue and also has satisfactory processability such that it can be worked without pressure-sensitive adhesive fouling or dropout.

A method for production of an adhesive optical film comprises the step of forming an anchor layer by applying an anchor layer-forming coating liquid to the optical film to form a coating with a thickness of 20 μm or less before drying, wherein the anchor layer-forming coating liquid contains a mixed solvent composed mainly of water and an alcohol, and a binder resin, and by drying the coating under drying conditions satisfying both of the following requirements: (1) the drying temperature T is between 40° C. and 70° C.; and (2) the value (T×H) obtained by multiplying the drying temperature T (° C.) by the drying time H (seconds) satisfies the relation 400≦(T×H)≦4,000 to remove the mixed solvent.

A pressure-sensitive adhesive layer for optical films. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer can prevent light leakage caused by stress associated with dimensional change of a component such as an optical film, that has reworkability, and that has satisfactory processability. A pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film produced using the layer is also provided. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is prepared with the use of a composition which includes a (meth)acrylic polymer including (a) 34 to 94% by weight of an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer unit, (b) 5 to 50% by weight of an aromatic ring-containing (meth)acrylate monomer unit, and (c) 0.01 to 0.5% by weight of an amino group-containing (meth)acrylate monomer unit; 0.01 to 2 parts by weight of a peroxide as a crosslinking agent; and 0.01 to 2 parts by weight of a silane coupling agent based on 100 parts by weight of the (meth)acrylic polymer.

A pressure-sensitive adhesive composition for use on an optical film, includes a (meth)acryl-based polymer obtained by copolymerization of 30 to 98.9% by weight of an alkyl(meth)acrylate, 1 to 50% by weight of an aromatic ring-containing polymerizable monomer, 0.1 to 20% by weight of a hydroxyl group-containing monomer, and 0 to 4% by weight of a carboxyl group-containing monomer, and a solvent. The (meth)acryl-based polymer has a weight average molecular weight of 300,000 to 1,200,000 as measured by gel permeation chromatography. The content of a solid including the (meth)acryl-based polymer is 20% by weight or more, and the content of the solvent is 80% by weight or less.

A pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film of the present invention comprises: an optical film comprising a transparent base film and a discotic liquid crystal layer on one side of the transparent base film; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer that is provided on the discotic liquid crystal layer, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is made from a pressure-sensitive adhesive containing an acrylic polymer comprising an alkyl(meth)acrylate (a1) and a ring structure-containing (meth)acrylate (a2) as monomer units and having a weight average molecular weight of 1,000,000 to 3,000,000, and a crosslinking agent. The pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film has durability and can be prevented from causing display unevenness in a peripheral portion of a display screen.

Disclosed is to provide a pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film that has excellent durability wherein deterioration of an image display region is suppressed even under severe conditions such as heating caused by lighting of a backlight and to provide a method for producing the same. Disclosed is also to provide an image display using such a pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film. A pressure-sensitive adhesive optical film, comprising: an optical film; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer arranged on one or both sides of the optical film, wherein the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is made from a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a (meth)acrylic polymer which contains, as a monomer unit, at least 50% by weight of an alkyl (meth)acrylate ester having an alkyl group with 4 or more carbon atoms, and 0.02 to 2 parts by weight of a peroxide, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has a thickness of 20 μm or more.
