Electret webs include a thermoplastic resin and a charge-enhancing additive. The charge-enhancing additive is an arylamino-substituted benzoic acid or an arylamino-substituted benzoic acid salt. The electret webs may be a non-woven fibrous web or a film. The electret webs are suitable for use as filter media.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to surface-modified zirconia nanoparticles, methods for making and using the same, and high index of refraction films made therefrom. The provided zirconia nanoparticles are surface modified with ligands that include N-hydroxyurea functionalities. The provided ligands also can contain compatibilizing groups that allow the provided surface-modified zirconia nanoparticles to be incorporated into an organic matrix. High index of refraction films can be made using these organic matrices.
Abstract:
A method of modifying a surface of a hydrocarbon-bearing formation is disclosed. The method includes contacting the surface of the hydrocarbon-bearing formation with a fluorinated amine, and the surface of the hydrocarbon-bearing formation includes a carbonate. The method can typically include introducing a treatment composition comprising solvent and at least one of the fluorinated amine or a salt thereof into the carbonate hydrocarbon-bearing formation. Hydrocarbon-bearing formations treated according to the method are also disclosed. Certain fluorinated amines useful for treating carbonate hydrocarbon-bearing formations and methods of making them are also disclosed.

A charge-modified particle comprising the inorganic core and a shell surrounding the inorganic core, wherein the shell comprises a copolymer comprising monomeric units corresponding to free-radically polymerizable monomers, and wherein at least one of the monomeric units comprises a substituted benzotriazolylphenolate salt. Methods of making the charge-modified particle by admicellar polymerization are also disclosed.

A flame-retardant composition is described comprising a mixture of a water dispersible organic polymer; and a water dispersible derivative of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof. The water dispersible derivative typically has a solubility in a 0.1 N aqueous solution of NaOH at 25° C. of at least 25 g/liter. Also described is a flame-retardant composition comprising the mixture described dispersed in an aqueous carrier and method of making a flame-retardant composition.

Electret webs include a thermoplastic resin and a charge-enhancing additive. The charge-enhancing additive is a substituted-benzoic acid or a substituted-benzoate salt. The benzoic acid and benzoate salts are substituted by a hydroxyl or amino group at the ortho position or 1 position of the benzene ring. The benzene ring may contain additional substituent groups. The substituted-benzoate salt may have a monovalent, divalent, or trivalent metal counteraction.
