摘要: Rotary valve system for controlling communication with a port in an internal combustion engine which, in one disclosed embodiment, has a crankshaft, compression and expansion pistons connected to the crankshaft for reciprocating movement within compression and expansion chambers, a combustion chamber in which air from the compression chamber is combined with fuel and burned to produce an increased gas volume. The valve system has an outer valve member which is rotatively mounted in a bore and has an opening which moves into and out of communication with the port as the outer valve member rotates, an inner valve member rotatably mounted within the outer outer valve member with an opening at least partly overlapping the opening in the outer valve member, a flange extending along one edge of the opening in the inner valve member and through the opening in the outer valve member for sealing engagement with the wall of the bore, and means for effecting rotation of the valve members to change the degree of overlap between the openings and thereby control the timing and duration of communication between the openings and the port.

摘要: The present invention discloses a method of preparing moulded confectionery articles, comprising the steps of: (1) preparing a liquid candy composition which solidifies upon cooling, said liquid candy composition being at a first temperature; (2) preparing a liquid chocolate composition which solidifies upon cooling, said liquid chocolate composition being at a second temperature which is lower than said first temperature; (3) co-depositing the liquid candy composition and the liquid chocolate compositions in the moulds; and (4) cooling the moulded compositions in the moulds so as to solidify the moulded compositions to form moulded confectionery articles; wherein the liquid chocolate composition is subjected to a high shear of at least 100 s−1, before being co-deposited in the moulds. This treatment enables the candy composition to be deposited into the moulds at a temperature which is higher than has heretofore been considered possible.

摘要: Methods for forming calibration standards for an inspection system and calibration standards are provided. One method includes scanning a first and a second specimen with an optical system. Master standard particles having a lateral dimension traceable to a national or international authority or first principles measurements are deposited on the first specimen. Product standard particles are deposited on the second specimen. In addition, the method includes determining a lateral dimension of the product standard particles by comparing data generated by scanning the two specimens. One calibration standard includes particles having a lateral dimension of less than about 100 nm deposited on a specimen. A distribution of the lateral dimension has a full width at half maximum of less than about 3%. The uncertainty of the lateral dimension is less than about 2%. Therefore, the standard meets the requirements for the 130 nm technology generation of semiconductor devices.

摘要: An Internet-scale file sharing system includes a client-side file sharing application that allows file-sharing users to identify files to share and transmit metadata corresponding to those files to a metadata repository. A server-side application operating on the metadata repository tracks metadata received from associated file-sharing users, as well as metadata from other affiliated metadata repositories. Each metadata repository acts as a search engine for any querying users and can provide search results based on locally stored metadata alone. Each metadata repository may additionally choose to locally-store popular files from an associated file-sharing user so as to alleviate transmission burdens on that file-sharing user. Associated metadata repositories each periodically synchronize their stored metadata so that all metadata repositories may generate similar search results. In such manner, file-sharing queries need only be performed by the metadata repository receiving the query, and not by all associated metadata repositories.

摘要: A calibration standard which may be used to calibrate lateral dimensional measurement systems is provided. The calibration standard may include a first substrate spaced from a second substrate. In addition, the calibration standard may include at least one layer disposed between the first and second substrates. The layer may have a traceably measured thickness. For example, a thickness of the layer may be traceably measured using any measurement technique in which a measurement system may be calibrated with a standard reference material traceable to a national testing authority. The calibration standard may be cross-sectioned in a direction substantially perpendicular to an upper surface of the first substrate. The cross-sectioned portion of the calibration standard may form a viewing surface of the calibration standard. In this manner, a lateral dimensional artifact of the calibration standard may include the traceably measured thickness of at least the one layer.

摘要: A bearing assembly for rotatably supporting a conveyor roller tube for a belt conveyor about a fixed shaft which includes a housing to which a roller tube is attached, an end cover positioned on the fixed shaft adjacent one side of the housing, and a bearing interposed between the housing and end cover permitting rotation of the housing relative to the end cover. The end cover completely covers the end of the shaft about which it is positioned and cooperates with the housing for effectively protecting the bearing from exposure to contaminants. During conveyor operation, the end cover prevents migration of contaminants along the shaft from the end thereof and the housing centrifugally expels contaminants which may enter the space between the housing and the end cover. In addition, the housing, bearing end cover, and shaft cooperate to limit axial shifting of the assembly components relative to one another.
