Abstract: Image encoding is described. Log-luminances in an HDR input image are histogrammed to generate a tone-map, along with which a log global tone-mapped luminance image is computed. The log global tone-mapped luminance image is downscaled. The log-luminances and the log global tone-mapped luminance image generate a log ratio image. Multi-scale resolution filtering the log ratio image generates a log multi-scale ratio image. The log multi-scale ratio image and the log luminances generate a second log tone-mapped image, which is normalized to output a tone-mapped image based on the downscaled log global tone-mapped luminance image and the normalized image. The HDR input image and the output tone-mapped image generate a second ratio image, which is quantized.

Abstract: HDR images are coded and distributed. An initial HDR image is received. Processing the received HDR image creates a JPEG-2000 DCI-compliant coded baseline image and an HDR-enhancement image. The coded baseline image has one or more color components, each of which provide enhancement information that allows reconstruction of an instance of the initial HDR image using the baseline image and the HDR-enhancement images. A data packet is computed, which has a first and a second data set. The first data set relates to the baseline image color components, each of which has an application marker that relates to the HDR-enhancement images. The second data set relates to the HDR-enhancement image. The data packets are sent in a DCI-compliant bit stream.

A modulated light source may have first light sources that are configured to emit first light, which has first color components that occupy a range that is beyond one or more prescribed ranges of light wavelengths. Abstract: At a first time point, a first light capturing device at a first spatial location in a three-dimensional (3D) space captures first light rays from light sources located at designated spatial locations on a viewer device in the 3D space. At the first time point, a second light capturing device at a second spatial location in the 3D space captures second light rays from the light sources located at the designated spatial locations on the viewer device in the 3D space. Based on the first light rays captured by the first light capturing device and the second light rays captured by the second light capturing device, at least one of a spatial position and a spatial direction, at the first time point, of the viewer device is determined.
