Abstract: The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a polyvinyl alcohol, a cationic salt, and water. The polyvinyl alcohol can have a weight average molecular weight from about 50,000 Mw to about 250,000 Mw. The cationic salt can be present in an amount of at least 15 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition. The polyvinyl alcohol and cationic salt together can make up at least 30 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a print medium, a printed article, and a method of printing. The print medium can include a thin paper substrate having weight ranging from 40 GSM to 150 GSM, and a pre-treatment coating applied to the thin paper substrate at a weight ranging from 0.3 GSM to 15 GSM. The pre-treatment coating can include from 10 wt % to 80 wt % of a fixer, from 3 wt % to 50 wt % of a latex polymer, and from 5 wt % to 50 wt % of a water holding agent.

Abstract: A printable recording media containing a substrate and a coating layer including a mixture of a first polymer selected from the group consisting of a polymer comprising ethylene residues and vinyl alcohol residues and a polymer comprising vinyl alcohol residues and a second polymer comprising ethylene residues, ethyl acrylate or acrylic ester residues and maleic anhydride residues wherein the amount of first polymer, in the mixture, is about 50% to about 95% by weight. Also disclosed herein is a method for making such printable recording media.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides swellable pre-treatment compositions, printable media, and related methods. As such, a swellable pre-treatment coating for a print medium can include an evaporable solvent, a matrix, and a wax. The matrix can include from 10 wt % to 20 wt % of a fixer, from 25 wt % to 35 wt % of aluminum chlorohydrate, from 0.5 wt % to 10 wt % of a first binder, from 20 wt % to 30 wt % of a second cross-linkable binder, and from 1 wt % to 5 wt % of a cross-linker. The wax can be present at from 10 wt % to 20 wt %, The weight percentages of the matrix and the wax are based on a total amount present in the swellable pre-treatment coating after removal of the evaporable solvent.
