摘要:
A method and system for controlling an exhaust temperature for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The method and system include determining a range of acceptable charge flows within the internal combustion engine to meet a desired exhaust temperature. The method and system further include controlling the charge flows to fall within the range. Control strategies to utilize the charge flow as a lever to control turbine outlet temperature are disclosed. These strategies utilize the inversion of the cylinder outlet temperature virtual sensor as well as a new turbine outlet temperature virtual sensor to determine the charge flow required to achieve the desired turbine outlet temperature given the current turbine inlet and outlet pressure, SOI, charge pressure, charge temperature, fueling, and engine speed.

An apparatus includes an operating conditions module that interprets a number of compressor operating parameters; a compressor flow module that determines a compressor inlet flow in response to the number of compressor operating parameters; and a fresh air flow module that provides a fresh air flow value in response to the compressor inlet flow. The operating conditions module further interprets a current mass air flow value, and the apparatus further includes a mass air flow sensor trimming module that adjusts a mass air flow sensor drift value in response to the current mass air flow value and the fresh air flow value. The apparatus includes a diagnostics module that determines a mass air flow sensor is failed in response to the current mass air flow value and the fresh air flow value.

Various embodiments of an apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for improving the tracking bandwidth of an air handling system of an internal combustion engine. For example, one embodiment of an apparatus includes an intake charge module configured to determine a desired air intake flow rate into the combustion chamber based at least partially on a desired oxygen concentration in the combustion chamber. The apparatus also includes an EGR system module configured to determine a desired EGR gas flow rate into the combustion chamber based at least partially on the desired oxygen concentration in the combustion chamber. Additionally, the apparatus includes a pre-filter module configured to modify the desired air intake flow rate and the desired EGR gas flow rate based at least partially on predetermined transient response characteristics of the air handling system. The desired air intake flow rate is achievable by commanding a fresh air regulator to achieve the modified air intake flow rate and the desired EGR gas flow rate is achievable by commanding an EGR regulator to achieve the modified EGR gas flow rate.

Various embodiments of an apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for reducing NOx emissions on an SCR catalyst. For example, according to one representative embodiment, an apparatus for reducing NOx emissions in an engine exhaust includes a NOx reduction target module that is operable to determine a NOx reduction requirement that includes an amount of NOx in the exhaust gas stream to be reduced on a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. The apparatus also includes an ammonia target module that is operable to determine an ammonia addition requirement that includes an amount of ammonia added to the exhaust gas stream to achieve the NOx reduction requirement. The apparatus also includes a reductant target module that has a hydrolysis module and an inverse hydrolysis module. The hydrolysis module is operable to determine a predicted amount of ammonia and isocyanic acid entering the SCR catalyst. The inverse hydrolysis module is operable to determine a reductant injection requirement based at least partially on the predicted amount of ammonia and isocyanic acid entering the SCR catalyst.

A system and method are provided for estimating an operating parameter of an exhaust manifold of an engine. In the system, a flow value is determined that corresponds to a flow rate of exhaust gas through an EGR conduit fluidly coupled between the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold. The EGR conduit includes an exhaust gas cooler disposed in-line with the EGR conduit and a property of the exhaust gas exiting an exhaust gas outlet of the cooler is measured. The operating parameter of the exhaust manifold is estimated as a function of at least the flow value and the property of the exhaust gas exiting the exhaust gas outlet of the cooler. Illustratively, the operating parameter of the exhaust manifold may be exhaust manifold pressure and/or temperature.

A system and method are provided for estimating the operating speed of a turbocharger. A first pressure value corresponds to pressure at or near the air inlet of the compressor, and a second pressure value corresponds to pressure at or near the air outlet of the compressor. A temperature value corresponds to a temperature at or near the air inlet of the compressor, and a flow rate value corresponds to a flow rate of air entering the air inlet of the compressor. The operating speed of the turbocharger is estimated as a function of the first pressure value, the second pressure value, the temperature value and the flow rate value.
