In a process of the present invention for producing a bridged cyclic polycarboxylic acid t-butyl ester, a bridged cyclic polycarboxylic halide of following Formula (1): (wherein ring Z is a bridged cyclic carbon ring; X is a halogen atom; and m denotes an integer of 2 or more, where ring Z may have a substituent) is allowed to react with t-butyl alcohol or its alkali metal salt to thereby yield an ester of following Formula (2): (wherein tBu is a t-butyl group; and ring Z and m have the same meanings as defined above.) This process can commercially efficiently produce a bridged cyclic polycarboxylic acid t-butyl ester. The compound of Formula (1) can be prepared by allowing a bridged cyclic polycarboxylic acid of following Formula (3): (wherein ring Z is a bridged cyclic carbon ring; and m denotes an integer of 2 or more, where ring Z may have a substituent) to react with a halogenating agent.

An oxidized phospholipid degrading enzyme is provided, which plays an important role in the oxygen stress preventive mechanism in organisms. The enzyme hydrolyzes a 1-acyl-2-.omega.-carboxyfatty acid acyl-3-phosphatidylcholine as a substrate at the 2-ester bond thereof to form 1-acyl-2-lyso-3-phosphatidylcholine. The activity of the enzyme is slightly enhanced by 4 mM calcium chloride. The molecular mass of the enzyme is 95.+-.5 kDa (by gel filtration). The enzyme is composed of three subunits whose molecular masses have been found to be 29 kDa, 30 kDa and 45 kDa, respectively, by SDS-polyacrylamide electrophoresis. A gene coding the enzyme is also provided. This gene is important for the synthesis of the enzyme by genetic engineering.

Method and apparatus for making a tomogram according to this invention include one elongated support member supporting an X-ray tube and a film device in an opposed relation with each other at both ends thereof and one vertical shaft supporting the elongated support member thereon. Movement of the axis of the shaft along a desired curve results in the movement of an X-ray beam in the state of the X-ray beam intersecting the curve. In the meantime, an angle of rotation around the axis of the shaft is adjusted so as to maintain an angle of intersection of the X-ray beam with the curve at a predetermined angle. A film surface is moved relatively with respect to the X-ray beam so as to allow the beam to scan the film surface. The velocity of movement of the film surface is synchronized with the movement of the shaft. In the invention, the aforementioned movement of the shaft along the curve, the aforementioned angle of rotation of the shaft and the aforementioned movement of the film surface are respectively controlled or adjusted by digital signals.

Disclosed is a curable resin composition which includes a ladder-type silsesquioxane (A) having an aliphatic carbon-carbon double bond in the molecule; a ladder-type silsesquioxane (B) having a Si—H bond in the molecule; and a hydrosilylation catalyst. The curable resin composition is useful as sealants typically for optical semiconductor elements. Also disclosed is a cured article which is obtained by curing the curable resin composition. The curable resin composition can give such a cured article having properties including resistance to elevated temperatures, flexibility, transparency, resistance to thermal yellowing, and resistance to photoyellowing.
