    摘要: A novel process for producing 2,4,6-tris(hydroxyphenyl amino)-1,3,5-triazine is disclosed. The process comprises reacting a compound represented by a formula (I) and a compound represented by a formula (II) in the presence of a base in a mixed solvent of at least one organic solvent and water, to produce a compound represented by a formula (III): where Y represents a substituent, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, m is an integer from 1 to 5, n is an integer from 0 to 4, and when n is 2 or larger, plural Y are same or different each other or plural Y may bond to each other.

    摘要: A circularly polarizing plate comprises a linearly polarizing membrane and a quarter wave plate. The quarter wave plate comprises an optically anisotropic layer A and an optically anisotropic layer B. The quarter wave plate has such an optical characteristic that a retardation value essentially is a quarter of a wavelength when the retardation value is measured at the wavelength of 450 nm, 550 nm and 650 nm. One of the optically anisotropic layers A and B is a layer made from liquid crystal molecules, and the other is a polymer film or a layer made from liquid crystal molecules.

    摘要: An optically anisotropic sheet comprises an optically anisotropic layer, an orientation layer and a transparent support in this order. The optically anisotropic layer is formed from discotic liquid crystal molecules. The orientation layer is subjected to rubbing treatment. The discotic liquid crystal molecules are aligned with the orientation layer. An average inclined angle of discotic planes of the discotic liquid crystal molecules is in the range of 50° to 90°. An average direction of optical axes of the discotic liquid crystal molecules is essentially parallel to a rubbing direction of the orientation layer.

    摘要: A phase retarder comprises two optically anisotropic layers A & B. The optically anisotropic layer A essentially gives the phase retardation of &pgr; at wavelength of 550 nm, and the optically anisotropic layer B essentially gives the phase retardation of &pgr;/2 at wavelength of 550 nm. The layers A and B are laminated so that the retarder has such an optical characteristic that a retardation value per wavelength is within the range of 0.2 to 0.3 at each wavelength of 450 nm, 550 nm and 650 nm. The total thickness of the layers A and B is within the range of 500 nm to 20 &mgr;m.
