    摘要: A polishing pad made of a flexible material includes a first major surface, a second major surface, and a large number of holes. The first major surface is urged by a rotatable polishing target member to polish a polishing target surface of the urged polishing target member by using a slurry. The second major surface is adhered to a rotatable platen. The large number of holes extend between the first and second major surfaces and serve as slurry reservoirs. The holes have a larger opening area on the second major surface than that on the first major surface. A polishing apparatus is also disclosed.

    摘要: Corrugated fins are provided at opposing sides of a corrugated thermoelectric device constituting a thermoelectric circuit. This air conditioner is obtained by superposing a plurality of the thermoelectric devices. When a current is fed to the thermoelectric devices, heat is absorbed from one of two fluids running through the corrugated fins and discharged to the other fluid, so as to define a heat pump cycle is defined. The thermoelectric devices are superposed so that the confronting surfaces of the neighboring thermoelectric devices constitute a heat radiation surface respectively and a cooling surface. The corrugated fins intersect with each other, so that the two fluids are prevented from mingling and are allowed to flow in and out of different surfaces.

    摘要: The present invention provides a laser irradiation apparatus which can accurately control positions of beam spots of laser beams emitted from laser oscillators and the distance between the adjacent beam spots. A laser irradiation apparatus of the present invention includes a first movable stage with an irradiation body provided, two or more laser oscillators emitting laser beams, a plurality of second movable stages with the laser oscillators and optical systems provided, and a means for detecting at least one alignment maker. The first stage and the second stages may move not only in one direction but also in a plurality of directions. Further, the optical systems are to shape the laser beams emitted from the laser oscillators into linear beams on the irradiation surface.

    摘要: An object is to provide an SOI substrate provided with a semiconductor layer which can be used practically even when a glass substrate is used as a base substrate. Another object is to provide a semiconductor device having high reliability using such an SOI substrate. An altered layer is formed on at least one surface of a glass substrate used as a base substrate of an SOI substrate to form the SOI substrate. The altered layer is formed on at least the one surface of the glass substrate by cleaning the glass substrate with solution including hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid or nitric acid. The altered layer has a higher proportion of silicon oxide in its composition and a lower density than the glass substrate.
