    摘要: A method of manufacturing a light-conductive pipe is described comprising the steps of: forming a light pipe mold having an elongated cavity with two optical end faces and an opening for injecting molten material into the cavity distant from either optical end face; providing molten material from a supply of molten material; injecting the molten material through the opening; and cooling and solidifying the molten material to form a light-conductive pipe having an input optical face and an output optical face connected by an elongated body of light-conductive material. Also descried are injection molded light-pipes formed by the method, and integrated linear arrays of injection molded light-conductive pipes formed by the method. Optical faceplates may be formed comprising multiple stacked integrated linear arrays of injection molded light-conductive pipes formed by the method, and tiled flat-panel display systems may comprise a plurality of modules aligned in an array, each module comprising a flat-panel display having a plurality of pixels and such an optical faceplate.

    摘要: An approach for supporting inter-domain routing of a packet is provided. A communication system includes a plurality of terminals having full meshed connectivity, in which each of the terminals is configured to route the packet to one of a plurality of address domains (i.e., terminal is multi-homed) and to notify a source terminal originating the packet of a correct one of the terminals. An address server assigns a network address corresponding to the one address domain based on a destination address associated with the packet, wherein the source terminal routes the packet according to the assigned network address. The present invention has particular applicability to a fully meshed satellite network.

    摘要: A thermal gate for turning on or off the flow of molten molding material into a mold cavity comprises a narrow passage formed by an extremely thin-walled tube of iron-nickel alloy surrounded by a thin sleeve of insulation, this sub-assembly being inserted into a water-cooled mold. When the tube is supplied with electric current, it rapidly heats to a temperature above the melting point of the molding material, permitting such material to flow into the mold cavity. The thin insulating sleeve maintains a temperature gradient across its wall thickness to permit the tube to remain at the desired temperature without undue power input. When it is desired to stop flow of material through the passage, the current is shut off, and the low thermal inertia of the tube and sleeve permit the tube to rapidly transfer its heat to the water-cooled mold, thereby freezing the molding material in the passage.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for performing dynamic load balancing across transmission channels in a communications system, for loads of multiple priorities for a plurality of terminals are provided. Priority levels for a plurality of traffic flows from the plurality of terminals are determined, and the traffic flows are assigned to a plurality of transmission channels to load balance the traffic flows based on the determined priority levels. The load balancing includes generating a load vector for each of the transmission channels, and determining a load balancing target for the load vectors. The load balancing further includes determining a centroid point for the generated load vectors, wherein the centroid point is the load balancing target, and iteratively converging to the centroid point as the load balancing target by determining cancellation pairs for the load vectors, to balance loads of multiple priorities.

    摘要: In accordance with the teachings of the present invention, a mold comprises a nubbin positioned within the mold, and an actuator positioned within the mold to align the nubbin. The actuator may be implemented with a piezoelectric material, a magnetorestrictive material, an electrorestrictive material, etc. In one embodiment, the actuator is formed into a cylinder and placed around a nubbin in a mold. When the actuator receives a stimulus, the actuator constricts decreasing the size of the inner diameter. Decreasing the size of the inner diameter causes the actuator to constrict and align the nubbin along a centerline.
