Abstract: Adaptive pilot signaling is disclosed in which resources allocated to pilot symbols are allowed to vary to more closely match channel conditions. User equipments (UEs) may request different pilot configurations depending on channel conditions. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a first set of pilot symbols using a first number of resource elements during a first transmission time interval (TTI), and receiving a second set of pilot symbols using a second number of resource elements during a second TTI. In the embodiment, the first TTI and the second TTI include the same number of resource elements, and the first number of resource elements is different than the second number of resource elements.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described, in which for one or more aspects of a first transmission of a first radio access technology (RAT) (e.g., a 5G or New Radio (NR) RAT) are determined based on transmissions of a second RAT (e.g., a 4G or Long Term Evolution (LTE) RAT). A user equipment (UE) may, in some cases, determine a reference timing, a reference power, or combinations thereof for an uplink transmission of the first RAT based on a received power or reference timing of the second RAT. In some cases, handover for the first RAT may be based at least in part on an handover in the second RAT.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A transmitting device may identify a duration of a slot used for communications with a receiving device. The transmitting device may determine that the communications with the receiving device comprises frequency division duplexing (FDD) communications. The transmitting device may transmit communications to the receiving device during a first portion of the slot, a duration of the first portion being less than the duration of the slot and the duration of the first portion is based at least in part on the determination that the communications comprise FDD communications. The transmitting device may select, based at least in part on the determination that the communications comprise FDD communications and that the communications are transmitted during the first portion of the slot, a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARD) scheme to use during the communications.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed to enhance the efficiency of available bandwidth between UEs and base stations. A UE transmits a sounding reference signal to the base station, which characterizes the uplink channel based on the SRS received and, using reciprocity, applies the channel characterization for the downlink channel. The base station may form the beam to the UE based on the uplink channel information obtained from the SRS. As the downlink channel changes the base station needs updated information to maintain its beamforming, meaning it needs a new SRS. Transmission of the SRS takes resources; to minimize this, the UE or the base station can determine a period during which the downlink channel will predictably remain coherent and set up a schedule for sending SRS. Alternatively, the UE or the base station can determine on demand that the channel is losing coherence and initiate an on demand SRS.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for wireless communication are provided. A method for wireless communication using a single radio air interface includes configuring a radio air interface of a first device to operate in accordance with a first variant of resource-spread multiple access technology, communicating wirelessly from a first device to a base station of a wide area network using the first variant of resource-spread multiple access technology, reconfiguring the radio air interface to operate in accordance with a second variant of resource-spread code division multiple access technology, and communicating wirelessly with a second device in a mesh network subsequent to reconfiguring the radio. The first device and the second device communicate wirelessly at power levels below a power level threshold selected to cause the base station to ignore transmissions between the first device and the second device.

Abstract: Signaling strategies for an advanced receiver with interference cancellation (IC) and suppression is discussed. Upon enablement of an advanced interference cancellation procedure according to the disclosure, transmitters within the enabled area transmit according to transmission restriction configurations that provide transmission limits based on either frequency, time, or scheduling. The restrictions on the transmitters reduces the complexity of processing by neighboring advanced receivers for cancellation of interference from the restricted transmitters. At the advanced receiver, transmission information, such as scheduling, reference signal (RS), resource block (RB) allocation, and the like, may either be determined through blind detection or received directly through signaling. The advanced receiver may use this transmission information associated with each interfering signal to detect, decode, and subtract the interfering signals from the received transmissions.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide a self-contained subframe structure for time division duplex (TDD) carriers. Information transmitted on a TDD carrier may be grouped into subframes, and each subframe can provide communications in both directions (e.g., uplink and downlink) to enable such communications without needing further information in another subframe. In one aspect of the disclosure, a single subframe may include scheduling information, data transmission corresponding to the scheduling information, and acknowledgment packets corresponding to the data transmission. Furthermore, the subframe may additionally include a header and/or a trailer to provide certain bi-directional communications functions.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communication. In one method, a method of wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a synchronization signal. The synchronization signal may be common to a plurality of cells within a network. The method further includes acquiring a timing of the network based on the synchronization signal, and transmitting a pilot signal in response to acquiring the timing of the network. The pilot signal may identify the UE and be concurrently receivable by the plurality of cells within the network. Other aspects, features, and embodiments are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Shared spectrum operation is disclosed for sharing spectrum among multiple wireless deployments. Coordination procedures between and among 2nd and 3rd Tier deployments include the use of beacons transmitted by the 2nd Tier for clearing access to spectrum occupied by 3rd Tier users and multiple 3rd Tier deployments sharing resources using a group-listen before talk (LBT) protocol, rather than a per-node LBT protocol. The 2nd Tier beacon signals are transmitted to alert 3rd Tier users of their presence, which, upon detection, will leave the particular spectrum within a predetermined time. For the shared LBT protocol, the 3rd Tier deployments share the channel with each other through an LBT with random backoff, in which the start time of clear channel assessment (CCA) procedure and the random backoff values are synchronized among nodes of the same deployment.
