Then, the CPU determines whether initialization of the external data storage device, connected to the laser printer, has been completed. If the CPU determines that the initialization of the external data storage device has not been completed, a LCD displays a message "execute initialization?" and the CPU waits ready for a next instruction by a user. If a maintenance execution key is operated by the user, the LCD displays a message "initializing" during initialization. At the same time, an initialization execution processing is executed.
