Abstract:
A flexible member, comprising: an inner core member, comprising a plurality of strands of liquid crystal polymers cooperating with each other to define and provide the inner core member; an outer sheath disposed about the inner core member, the outer sheath defining an inner opening for receiving the inner core member therein, the inner core member being slidably received within the outer sheath, wherein the flexible member is capable of being disposed about a curved surface, wherein a lubricant is disposed upon an exterior surface of the outer sheath and the outer sheath further comprises an end-fitting member disposed about a portion of the flexible connector, the portion of the flexible connector comprising an engagement surface for securement of the end fitting thereto.
Abstract:
A light weight, strong and flexible, braided electrical fence rope, for fences to contain livestock and keep unwanted animals out, combines in its outer braided jacket electrically conductive elements with high strength non-conductive elements in a double helix configuration. The outer braided jacket will preferably surround an inner core of non-conductive high strength elements. The high strength non-conductive elements and the physical properties of the braided rope construction provide inherent strength and flexibility properties to the fence rope. The conductive elements in the outer braided jacket are selected to provide an effective electric shock when contacted by an animal. This electric fence rope combines barrier strength and psychological deterrence to both domestic and wild animals.
Abstract:
A fly fishing line and a method for the manufacture of the line is described. The line comprises a core and an outer coating disposed around the core, the coating comprising polyvinyl chloride polymer, polytetrafluoroethylene and optionally polyacrylate derived from the polymerization of a polyfunctional polymerizable acrylate monomer. The method comprises coating a core with a plastisol comprising a polyvinyl chloride resin polytetrafluoroethylene, and optionally one or more of the foregoing monomers; exposing the plastisol to conditions providing formation of a polymer derived from the polyvinyl chloride resin and having polytetrafluoroethylene dispersed throughout the polymer.
Abstract:
A balanced strand includes a fibrous core about which load bearing fibers are twisted. The fibrous core has an elongation factor of at least 10% and comprises approximately up to 30% of the material volume of the strand. The load bearing fibers have an elongation factor less than the fibrous core and a strength of at least 15 g denier. The load bearing fibers comprise the remaining strand material volume.
Abstract:
A multi-strand nylon rope having improved abrasion resistance comprised of a plurality of strands. Each strand is comprised of a plurality of yarns wherein each yarn is formed of a predetermined number of filaments. The filaments of each yarn are twisted together to form a yarn of a predetermined size, the twist direction being opposite that of the final ply yarn direction. For a right lay rope a sufficient number of filaments are twisted together in the left or "S" direction to produce a yarn of a predetermined size. Three or more yarns prepared in this manner are then plied or twisted together in the opposite or right direction. The cover for each strand is formed of alternate yarns of standard and oblong filaments, respectively, the oblong filaments having a modification ratio of three, forming a rope having increased abrasion resistance, a hand and feel that is not stiff or unmanageable and which resists strand-to-strand wet abrasion.
Abstract:
A slip knot wrist strap attachment for an item of equipment, such as a sport racquet, is fabricated from a single piece of tubular braid. One end of the braid is inserted through the core of the tubular braid from an insertion point thereof and fed through the inside of the tube to the other end of the tube to form an inner tube, an outer tube and a holding loop. The ends of the inner tube and outer tube are inserted through the formed holding loop and the outer tube is slid over the inner tube to close the holding loop, thereby forming a sliding loop from the insertion point. The sliding loop may fit around the wrist of the equipment user and the remote end may be tied to the item of equipment during use of the equipment.
Abstract:
A braided fishing line leader comprises a plurality of filaments each having a diameter in the order of micrometer and being interwoven into a hollow braided tube progressively reducing in diameter from a trailing end to a leading end thereof. The filaments include nylon threads interwoven with copper threads to increase density of the leader.
Abstract:
A method for the manufacture of fiber ropes, according to which a braid with or without a core is produced, and this assembly, made of high performance, degreased fibers is impregnated by passing it through an impregnation bath, containing polyester urethanes and some aromatic isocyanate, which constitutes the reticulant, and then drying.
