    Abstract: This invention relates to camshafts of the assembly type and the manufacture thereof, in which a shaft part and cam parts are first formed separately, as individual parts of simple configuration. The cam parts are then freely mounted on the shaft part, then indexed to the desired axial and angular positions, and temporarily secured to the shaft by a fastening medium applied through an indexing hole through each cam and engaging the shaft, and thereafter the cams, so mounted and indexed, are permanently secured to the shaft by welding. The indexing hole also can function as a lubricant reservoir.

    Abstract: A fixture assembly includes a primary gage member, camshaft gages, a crankshaft gage and an engine gage, all of which have planar datum surfaces that are each dimensionally located relative to the primary gage member planar datum surface. The engine gage includes an engine datum surface, and is sized and shaped to receive, support and dimensionally locate the engine. An engine block datum surface is configured to be positioned on the engine datum surface thereby locating the engine relative to the primary gage member datum surface. The primary, first, second and engine datum surfaces are fixed in a parallel relationship to each other so as to form a parallel alignment system such that when the fixture assembly datum surfaces engage and form parallel alignment with the corresponding engine datum surfaces, the camshafts and crankshaft are angularly located in a predetermined angular orientation for proper timing of the engine assembly.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a camshaft, in particular for motor vehicle engines, comprising an outer shaft (1), an inner shaft (2) arranged coaxially in the outer shaft (1), first functional elements (3) rigidly arranged on the outer shaft (1), second functional elements (4a, 4b), which are rotatably arranged on the outer shaft (1) and fastened to the inner shaft (2) in a rotationally fixed manner, and a phase adjuster (5) connected to the outer shaft (1) and the inner shaft (2) for rotating the inner shaft (2) relative to the outer shaft (1), wherein the phase adjuster (5) is fastened to the inner shaft (2) and thereby a torque is applied.     Abstract: An engine assembly includes an engine structure, a camshaft supported on the engine structure, a first cam phaser coupled to a first axial end of the camshaft, and a locating pin. The camshaft includes a first shaft, a second shaft, a first cam lobe and a second cam lobe. The first shaft defines a first opening. The second shaft is supported within the first shaft and defines a second opening. The first cam lobe is located on and fixed for rotation with the first shaft. The second cam lobe may be located on the first shaft and fixed for rotation with the second shaft. During assembly, the first cam phaser is located on the camshaft and the locating pin may be inserted through the first and second openings to rotationally fix the first and second shafts. The first cam phaser is then secured to the camshaft.
