Abstract:
A communication device is configured to perform symbol mapping of bits to generate modulation symbols using one or more modulations. The device may employ a blended modulation composed of bit labels or symbols having different numbers of bits per symbol and different modulations. For example, the device may symbol map bit labels/symbols having first number of bits per symbol to first modulation, and the device may symbol map labels/symbols having second number of bits per symbol to second modulation. The device may be configured to perform forward error correction (FEC) or error correction code (ECC) and coding of information bits to generate coded bits that subsequently undergo symbol mapping. The device may be configured to operate based on different operational modes based on substantially uniform steps of rates, or bits per symbol, and energy per bit or symbol to noise spectral density ratio (Eb/N0 or Es/N0).
Abstract:
A method is implemented by a network device to establish a bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) session with a defined return path to enable detection of data plane failures between an active node and a passive node in a network where a forward path and a reverse path between the active node and the passive node are not co-routed. The method includes receiving a label switched path (LSP) ping including a BFD discriminator type length value (TLV) of the active node and a return path TLV describing a return path to the active node. The BFD discriminator of the active node and a BFD discriminator of the passive node are associated with the BFD session. The return path is associated with the BFD session between the active node and the passive node, and BFD control packets are sent to the active node using the return path to detect a failure on the return path.
Abstract:
Upon detection of a trigger, such as the exceeding of an error threshold or the direction of a user, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. This diagnostic information transmission mode allows for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that may not otherwise be exchangeable during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by transmitting an initiate diagnostic link mode message to a receiving modem accompanied by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The receiving modem determines, based on the CRC, if a robust communications channel is present. If a robust communications channel is present, the two modems can initiate exchange of the diagnostic and/or test information. Otherwise, the transmission power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initiate diagnostic link mode message re-transmitted to the receiving modem until the CRC is determined to be correct.

Also, a method of calibrating a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for a transmitter comprising transmitting a first signal comprising a data signal with no noise signal, capturing the first signal, transmitting a second signal comprising a noise signal, wherein both an amplitude and a phase of the noise signal have been adjusted by a gain and phase control element, capturing the second signal, and determining the SNR corresponding to the captured first signal and the captured second signal, wherein the transmitter transmits the second signal using a transmit driver.
Abstract:
A serial data transmission system includes a sending terminal for sending data, a receiving terminal for receiving the data sent by the sending terminal, a first connecting capacitor connected between the sending terminal and the receiving terminal, and a second connected capacitor connected between the sending terminal and the receiving terminal. The sending terminal includes a sending terminal driving unit, and an amplitude detecting unit connected to the sending terminal driving unit. The sending terminal driving unit outputs a pair of differential signals according to signals of the received data. The amplitude detecting unit detects changes in amplitudes of the differential signals outputted by the sending terminal driving unit, and outputs an indicating signal for indicating whether the sending terminal is properly connected to the receiving terminal. A serial data transmission method is further provided.

Abstract:
In accordance with the presently claimed invention, a system and method are provided for testing multiple-input, multiple-output wireless radiofrequency (RF) packet data signal transceivers while operating in such ways as to communicate their signals using various combinations or permutations of packet data streams without requiring termination or re-establishment of communication links following transitions from one combination or permutation of packet data streams to another.
Abstract:
Disclosed are various embodiments that relate identifying a source of corruption in a network made up of multiple network nodes. A network node is configured to provide corruption source identification while handling packets according to a cut-through scheme. According to some embodiments, a network node may perform a running error detection operation on a cut-through packet and then insert a debug indicator into the cut through packet. In other embodiments, the network node may process some packets according to a cut-through scheme while process other packets according to a store-and-forward scheme to detect packet corruption in a network.
Abstract:
Methods and test equipment for measuring jitter in a Pulse Amplitude Modulated (PAM) transmitter. Under one procedure, a first two-level PAM signal test pattern is used to measure clock-related jitter separated into random and deterministic components, while a second two-level PAM signal test pattern is used to measure oven-odd jitter (EOJ). Under another procedure, A four-level PAM signal test pattern is used to measure jitter-induced noise using distortion analysis. Test equipment are also disclosed for implementing various aspects of the test methods.
