Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an image element array includes: providing a production tool having a surface pattern of ink-receptive elements spaced by areas which are not, the ink-receptive elements defining the array image elements; applying a multi-colored first image formed of a inks to only the ink-receptive elements; and transferring only the portions of the multi-colored first image corresponding to the image elements from the production tool to a substrate. An image element array is formed on the substrate. The production tool surface pattern is configured such that when viewing and image element arrays overlap, each viewing element within an image element array first region directs light from a respective image element or from a respective gap. The viewing angle in the first region directs light from either the array or the gaps.
Abstract:
Dry, ablation-type, nitrocellulose-containing lithographic printing members include dual adjacent imaging layers, both including an absorber and at least one containing a binder (which may include or consist essentially of a melamine resin). The absorber of the nitrocellulose-containing layer is a pigment and this layer contains no absorbing dye, while the absorber of the other imaging layer includes or consists essentially of a dye.
Abstract:
Ablation-type printing plates having improved exposure sensitivity are produced using an imaging layer—i.e., the plate layer that absorbs and ablates in response to imaging radiation—whose composition includes a large proportion of crosslinker.
Abstract:
Lithographic printing plates for wet or waterless offset printing are disclosed which can be imagewise exposed using a digitally controlled IR laser. The invention comprises a laser imagable lithographic printing plate comprising a substrate, a photosensitive coating on the substrate, and a water soluble laser ablatable top coating containing dyes or polymers that absorb infra-red, ultraviolet and visible light. Laminated transparent polymer films and/or peelable polymeric coatings films can be interposed between the coated substrate and a water soluble and/or organic solvent soluble laser ablatable top layer to augment plate production or image inscription on the plate.
Abstract:
A method of printing a color image on a medium, the method comprising the following steps: separating the image to be reproduced into a composition of colored unit areas, said unit areas being disposed in a predetermined distribution, the color of each unit area being selected from a predetermined set of base colors and a predetermined set of tones of said base colors, the number of tones for at least one of the base colors being greater than or equal to three, the base color and the tone allocated to each of said unit areas being selected so that said composition of colored unit areas visually reconstitutes the image to be reproduced; and printing said composition of colored unit areas on said medium by means of inks whose hues are selected, taking into account the color of said support, so as to be capable of reproducing said base colors and the tones thereof during printing, the tone of a base color allocated to a given unit area being obtained during printing by acting on the proportion of each ink within the corresponding unit area on the medium.
Abstract:
A printing plate including a printing plate member, an easily deformable elastic layer laminated on the printing plate member, a surface layer having a higher elasticity than that of the elastic layer, laminated on the elastic layer, and a printing surface layer formed on the surface layer. The printing surface layer has an image area having an affinity with an ink and a non-image area having an ink repellancy.
Abstract:
A method of non-overlap halftone-dot printing of a colored original on the outer surface of a cylindrical container is done by dry off-set printing. A colored original is color-separated into three primary colors, i.e., cyan, magenta and yellow, change-to-halftone is effected to give an effect of contact screening with the same angle for the individual separated primary colors, and one pixel of print is expressed by three colors at most, i.e., one of the three primary colors, one of three secondary colors, i.e., cyan-magenta, magenta-yellow and yellow-cyan blend colors, and black (tertiary color).
Abstract:
A method of forming an ink image with a thermo-sensitive ink by using a printing plate that is used in dry lithographic printing, and printing the ink image onto an object. An ink remover is placed via a thermo-sensitive ink layer that is in a heated state on a printing surface of a printing plate having a part receptive to ink and a part capable of repelling ink. The printing plate and the ink remover are separated after they are cooled so that the ink layer on the part capable of repelling ink is transferred to the ink remover. The ink image obtained on the printing plate or the ink remover is transferred to an object. Printing that does not require maintenance that has been essential to conventional dry lithographic printing becomes possible.
