Abstract: The disclosure provides co-extruded, multi-layer films, including metallized barrier films and non-barrier films, and articles of manufacture that include the films, such as flexible bags and containers for flowable materials. The films and articles that include the films have good heat retention, and barrier properties, as well as good flex-crak resistance and toughness. The films and articles that include the films have a metallized barrier core layer of ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) copolymer wherein both the metal and EVOH are in amounts that achieve the heat retention, flex-crack resistance, toughness, and barrier properties, while allowing for the recycling of the films and articles of manufacture.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for producing heat sealable multilayer paperboards including precoating layer including polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex binder and one or more water-based barrier layers. Heat sealability of the multilayer paperboard was significantly better than heat-sealability of a multilayer paperboard wherein the precoating was omitted or wherein the precoating incudes typical binders such as styrene butadiene latex or styrene acrylate latex but no polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex. Also disclosed are heat sealable multilayer paperboards obtainable by the method and use of polyvinyl acetate acrylate latex in precoating composition for improving heat sealability of a multi-layer paperboard.

Abstract: Recyclable films having a first layer containing a polyethylene, a second layer containing a high-density polyethylene and a hydrocarbon resin, and a third layer containing a polyethylene may be used for thermoforming packaging components. Both the first and third layers have an overall density between about 0.92 g/cm3 and 0.97 g/cm3. The film structure is advantageous as it can be more easily thermoformed than traditional high-density polyethylene films and can maintain the shape taken during thermoforming, exhibiting minimal warping or shrinking.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a laminated polyethylene film comprising: (a) a first film; and (b) a second film; wherein the first and the second film are adhering to one another to form a laminate; wherein ⋅ the first film is a bi-directionally oriented film; and ⋅ the second film is a blown film; wherein the first film comprises or consists of polyethylene, and the second film comprises or consists of polyethylene; wherein the second film comprises one or more film layers, and comprises a sealing layer so that the sealing layer forms a surface layer of the laminated film; wherein the sealing layer comprises a polyethylene copolymer (I) comprising moieties derived from 1-octene, having: ⋅ a density of ≥855 kg/m3 and ≤910 kg/m3, as determined in accordance with ASTM D792 (2008); ⋅ a melt mass-flow rate of ≥0.2 and ≤5.0 g/10 min, as determined in accordance with ASTM D1238 (2013) at a temperature of 190° C. under a load of 2.16 kg. Such laminated film, constituting a mono-material, mechanically recyclable packaging film solution, demonstrates a desirably low sealing temperature whilst ensuring good seal strength. This enables use in thermally sealed food packages, with reduced sealing energy consumption and reduced exposing of package contents to high temperatures, leading to increase of shelf life of the packed foodstuff. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the laminate are of desirably high level.

Abstract: A packaging material is provided including a substrate, and an oxygen transmission inhibiting layer that is carried by the substrate. The oxygen transmission inhibiting layer is formed of a composite material including a linear polysaccharide medium within which one or more additives are dispersed. The composite material is capable of forming a substantially continuous film to provide a barrier to transmission of oxygen gas. The oxygen transmission inhibiting layer is configured within the packaging material at a thickness that is efficacious in inhibiting the transmission of oxygen gas therethrough. A packaging device has two or more component parts, at least one of which is formed of the packaging material. The component parts of the packaging device are shaped and/or configured to be assembled to define an interior region within which goods are to be contained.
