摘要: A continuous-wave, nonspiking, single-mode laser is provided wherein continuous-wave, nonspiking operation of ruby lasers cooled to 77 and 4.2*K. is obtained by end pumping a laser rod with the output of a CW argon ion laser. The laser rod is comprised of six discs, three ruby and three sapphire separated by spacers.

摘要: Flowing gas laser systems of a variety of configurations, including exemplary CO2-N2-He systems, are provided with a critical amount of relaxant gas, determined by maximum differential between the upper and lower laser levels of the lasing gas for a given rate of excitation of the upper laser level, a mass flow suitably high to convect the heat away from the optical gain region causing the temperature of the optical gain region to be maintained suitably low that the equilibrium population of an upper energy state of a limiting self-relaxation process between the lower laser level and ground is maintained less than the significant fraction of the total lasing gas population. Increased mass flow, resulting partially from increased pressure, provides increased losses within the electric field region where the upper laser level is excited through electron collisions, the increased losses permitting operation with a higher electric field, with higher electron densities, and with increased pressure, thereby permitting operation at an optimum ratio between electric field to neutral particle density with a higher electric field.

摘要: A laser rod having a header coaxial therewith and abutting the rod at a cut which is oblique to the axis of the rod to substantially prevent focusing of the laser light at any single point in the rod. The focusing could cause damage to the rod.

摘要: A highly mode-selective ring laser is made with primary and auxiliary ring resonators that are coupled through beam splitters that direct out of the laser a large portion of radiation in modes that are not resonant in both of the resonators. Typically, the beam splitters will operate on modes propagating in opposite senses. A typical configuration includes primary and auxiliary ring resonators both in the form of quadrilaterals and includes beam splitters with reflectivities chosen to provide a loss for the nonselected modes that is higher than the gain of the laser.

摘要: LASER OPTICAL CAVITY AND METHOD OF ALIGNMENT UTILIZING REFLECTORS MOUNTED ON SUBSTRATES HAVING A HEMISPHERICAL FORM AND SET INTO RIGID STRUCTURE FOR SUPPORTING THE SUBSTRATE AND PERMITTING IT TO BE ADJUSTED INTO ALIGNMENT TO FORM A PORTION OF AN OPTICAL CAVITY. A SEALANT HAVING A PLASTIC AND A RIGID STATE IS DISPOSED BETWEEN THE SUBSTRATE AND THE SUPPORT SO THAT BY EXCITING THE LASER AND SIMULTANEOUSLY SHIFTING THE SUBSTRATE WHILE THE SEALANT IS IN A PLASTIC STATE, AN INCIPIENT LASER BEAM CAN BE DEVELOPED AND MAXIMIZED, AFTER WHICH THE SEALANT IS CAUSED TO ASSUME ITS RIGID STATE AND MAINTAIN THE SUBSTRATE AND ASSOCIATED REFLECTOR IN THE ALIGNED POSITION.
