Abstract:
The present invention generally relates to apparatus and methods for buoyancy compensation. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a selectively deformable buoyancy device and method for its use.
Abstract:
Method for fixing two elements together, in particular links (1) of a metal wristwatch strap, according to which a metal pin (2) made of a moulding memory alloy with large hysteresis--programmed such that it turns from the martensitic structure to the austenitic structure in a first temperature range which is situated above the service temperature of the elements and whereby its thickness increases, and such that it turns back from the austenitic structure to the martensitic structure in a second temperature range which is situated under the above-mentioned service temperature--is clamped in the martensitic structure in at least one either or not blind hole (3) in at least one of the elements to be linked; the pin (2) is subsequently heated to a temperature higher than the first temperature range, such that the thickness of the pin (2) is increased, whereby the clamping force of the pin (2) in the hole (3) becomes very large; and the pin (2) is finally cooled down to service temperature, characterized in that a pin (2) with a martensitic structure is put in at least one hole (3) having a thickness which is slightly larger than the width of the hole (3).
Abstract:
In a shapable catheter and method for positioning a shapable catheter within a body cavity, a core wire is provided which includes a pre-shaped region bent into a predetermined shape. A catheter is provided which includes a lumen proportioned to slidably receive the core wire. The catheter includes a rigid proximal section and a flexible distal section. A pull wire may additionally be provided to allow the user to cause deflection at a distal portion of the catheter.
Abstract:
A catheter assembly having a sheath, which includes a side wall enclosing an interior bore, and a distal region. The assembly also has a bendable catheter tube, which is carried for sliding movement in the interior bore. A pull wire also runs through the interior bore of the sheath, preferably within a lumen. The catheter tube has a distal portion with a coupling which joins the distal portion of the catheter tube and the distal portion of the pull wire. Relative movement of the pull wire and the sheath causes bending of the catheter tube outwardly through the opening, in response to sliding movement of the catheter tube within the interior bore toward the distal region of the sheath.
Abstract:
A current responsive latching apparatus may be employed in a dropout fuseholder or other electrical component for retaining the component in a current-carrying position and disconnecting and isolating the electrical component upon the occurrence of an overcurrent of a predetermined magnitude. The apparatus includes a current path through the component, including a current-carrying stud or conductor, a portion of which extends outside the component for releasably engaging a support member. A latching apparatus, which may include an actuating member of memory allow or a bimetallic material, engages the conductor to retain the support member in a supporting position beneath the electrical component. The apparatus may further include a heater element in the current path to ensure that the actuation member is heated to the temperature necessary to cause it to change shape and release the conductor upon the presence of an overcurrent.
Abstract:
A steerable catheter is disclosed which includes a complexly curved proximal section shaped to seat the catheter relative to an anatomical feature within a patient. The catheter also includes a flexible intermediate section which has comparatively greater flexibility than other sections of the catheter. The flexible intermediate section bends in response to forces applied by an attached steering device and substantially all of the flex in the catheter may be contained within the flexible intermediate section. The catheter further has a pre-shaped distal section which is urged into contact with tissue within the patient when the flexible intermediate section flexes. In a preferred embodiment, the distal section supports a plurality of ring electrodes and is shaped to generally correspond to the physiology of a wall of the heart.
Abstract:
A device and system for releasably securing a watchband to a watch casing. Specifically, a watchband connector pin is formed of a shape memory material, preferably a shape memory alloy. The watchband may be readily released and reattached from a watch casing to facilitate repairs of the watch, for aesthetic considerations, or when the watch band is damaged or worn. The connector pin is durable due to the one piece design, easy to operate, flexible, and economical to produce.
Abstract:
An assembly of preformed curved enamel-coated ablative tipped endocardial electrodes are housed inside an outer sheath in a preformed geometric arrangement for insertion into heart chambers and application onto the endocardial surface of the heart. The position of the electrodes relative to each other is predetermined by their arrangement on a Teflon bushing which serves as a platform anchored on the end of an inner sheath. The inner sheath is moveable relative to the outer sheath thus allowing graded exposure of the electrodes controlling movement toward the apical and lateral walls of the chamber. Ablative energy is delivered through the 8 mm J-tipped electrode to destroy the arrhythmia focus or reentrant circuit.
Abstract:
A toy jewel ornament includes a body having one or more articulated elements which are hingedly movable upon the body to assume a closed position covering a toy jewel also supported upon the body or an open position exposing the toy jewel. In one embodiment, the ornament is configured as a pendent and resembles an Aladdin's lamp having a jewel at its center and a generally hemispherical hollow jewel cover coupled to the pendent body by an integrally molded hinge. In an alternate embodiment, the ornament is formed in a flower-like shape having a plurality of radially extending petals and is securable to the wrist of a toy figure. The petals are movable between an open bloomed position exposing the jewel and a closed bud-like position fully enclosing the jewel. The ornaments are thermally set in the closed position by manually forcing the ornament to the closed position after warming and temporarily immersing the ornament in a cold water bath. Thereafter, the ornament maintains the thermal set and maintains the closed position until again exposed to a warm water bath or its equivalent at which time the ornament again opens exposing the jewel.
Abstract:
An improved load break disconnecting device is disclosed, comprising a conductive portion having a non-gassing fuse, a fuse cartridge having first and second ends and enclosing said fuse, a conducting hinge assembly and conducting stationary contact means, and a non-conducting arc extinguishing sleeve with latch means for latching the sleeve in a non-covering position until the switch is closed and biasing means for snapping the sleeve into an arc-extinguishing, covering position when the switch is opened.
