Abstract: The present disclosure presents techniques for improving operational efficiency of climate control systems. A climate control system may include climate control equipment, a sensor that measures temperature in a building, and a control system that controls operation of the equipment using a first temperature schedule, which associates each time step with a temperature setpoint, when the building is occupied. When not occupied, the control system determines an expected return time based on historical occupancy data associated with the building, determines the temperature setpoint associated with the expected return time, determines candidate schedules each expected to result in the inside air temperature meeting the temperature setpoint, determines efficiency metrics each associated with one of the candidates based on historical performance data resulting from previous operation of the climate control system, and controls operation of the equipment based on a second temperature schedule selected from the candidates based on associated efficiency metrics.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes techniques for implementing a variable speed drive (VSD) in an environmental conditioning system to facilitate mitigating or eliminating system faults. The variable speed drive drives a motor during on-cycles and heats motor windings of the motor during off-cycles. The variable speed motor drive includes a rectifier that converts alternative-current (AC) power input to a direct-current (DC) power output, a DC bus that is coupled to the rectifier and includes a DC bus transistor, and an inverter. The DC bus transistor pre-charges a DC capacitor of the DC bus to drive the motor during on-cycles and receives a gate pulse with a duty cycle based on a differential temperature, where the gate pulse heats the motor windings. The inverter receives the gate pulse applied to the DC bus transistor and transmits it a motor winding to prevent moisture on the motor winding.

Abstract: A building management system (BMS) interface system. The BMS interface system includes a user interface and a BMS controller in communication with the user interface. The BMS controller includes a processor. The processor is configured to display a graphical scheduling interface on the user interface and receive a scheduling input from the user interface. The processor is further configured to extract one or more scheduling elements from the received scheduling input and convert the scheduling elements into one or more BMS data objects. The processor is further configured to update the graphical scheduling interface displayed on the user interface. The processor is also configured to execute one or more scheduling instructions based on the received scheduling input, wherein the scheduling instructions are associated with the operation of one or more BMS devices.

Abstract: An HVAC system within a building including an HVAC device having an air filter, a number of sensors, and a control device. The control device has a processor that is configured to determine a current air quality metric based on air quality measurements received by the sensor. The control device is further configured to calculate an average air quality metric based on the current air quality metric and a set of previous air quality metrics. The control device is further configured to store the average air quality metric. The control device is further configured to generate an air filter type recommendation based on the average air quality metric.

Abstract: A control system for a heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system includes a sensor configured to detect a concentration of refrigerant in air. The control system also includes a controller configured to receive feedback from the sensor indicative of the concentration of refrigerant in air, determine that the concentration of refrigerant in air is less than a threshold value, and determine that the HVAC system is in an operating mode. The controller is configured to operate a blower of the HVAC system for a predetermined time period based on the determinations that the concentration of refrigerant in air is less than the threshold value and that the HVAC system is in the operating mode.

Abstract: A temperature control system. The control system includes a flow sensor configured to monitor water flow through a valve, an actuator coupled to the valve, and a first controller configured to establish a setpoint for a second controller. The second controller monitors fluid flow through the valve and combines a weighted first command from the first controller and a weighted second command from the second controller to generate a control signal, wherein combining the weighted first command and the weighted second command is based on the reliability of the flow sensor. The second controller further controls the actuator based on the control signal.
